PREFACE.

It will not, I hope, seem presumptuous to string inferior pebbles on the same golden thread, upon which Heber and Keble and Monsell and Bishop Wordsworth have strung so many pearls of thought. But England's Church is awaking more and more to' a sense of the priceless legacy bequeathed her from the earliest ages in her Christian Year as mapped out in her Prayer-book. The facts of our most holy faith stand out in bolder relief, as her children review them day by day or week by week in orderly succession. The field is the world of Revelation. And if it may be granted the preacher or singer to present in clearer outline, by sermon or song, any one of the manifold truths, selected by the Church for our meditation on any Sunday or Holy Day, his labour will not be in vain.
