2. Whosoever therefore resisteth the power, resisteth the ordinance of God: and they that resist shall receive to themselves damnation.3

3 For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to the evil. Wilt thou then not be afraid of the power? do that which is good, and thou shalt have praise of the same:

4 For he is the minister of God to thee for good. But if thou do that which is evil, be afraid; for he beareth not the sword in vain: for he is the minister of God, a revenger to execute wrath upon him that doeth evil.

5 Wherefore ye must needs be subject, not only for wrath, but also for conscience sake.

6 For for this cause pay ye tribute also: for they are God's ministers, attending continually upon this very thing.

w DEUT. xxi. 20, 21: This our son is stubborn and rebellious, he will not obey our voice; he is a glutton, and a drunkard. And all the men of his city shall stone him with stones, that he die. 1 SAM. XXV. 36: Nabal's heart was merry within him, for he was very drunken. 1 KINGS, xvi. 9: [Elah's] servant Zimri-conspired against him, as he was in Tirzaḥ, drinking himself drunk. Woe unto them that are mighty to drink wine, and men of strength to mingle strong drink! do. xxviii. 1, 7: Woe to the crown of pride, to the drunkards of Ephraim. They also have erred through wine, and through strong drink are out of the way. Hos. iv. 11: Whoredom and wine and new wine take away the heart. 1 Cor. vi. 9: Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Wherefore receive ye one another, as Christ also received us to the glory of God. 1 COR. viii. 9, 11: Take heed lest by any means this liberty of your's become a stumblingblock to them that are weak, And through thy knowledge shall the weak brother perish, for whom Christ died? do. ix. 19, 22: Though I be free from all men, yet have I made myself servant unto all, that I might gain the more. To the weak became I as weak, that I might gain the weak. do. x. 24, 33: Let no man seek his own, but every man another's wealth. Even as I please all men in all things, not seeking mine own profit, but the profit of many, that they may be saved. do. xiii. 5: [Charity] doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own. 2 COR. xi. 29: Who is weak, and I am not weak? GAL. vi. 1, 2: Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye which are spiritual, restore such an one in the spirit of meekness. Bear ye one another's burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ.
