Such a connection is necessary to enable Schools and Teachers in the country to participate in many of the benefits which the Union is able to confer. THE Sabbath School Magazine. NO. IV.] APRIL, 1885. [VOL. XXXVII. Sabbath School Mission for Scotland. RECORD OF THE MISSION WORK FOR 1884. DURING the past year 170 Sabbath schools, Bible classes, and other centres of religious instruction have been visited; upwards of 150 personal interviews have been held with ministers, superintendents, and other persons of influence; and meetings of schools, teachers, parents, young men, and congregations have been addressed to the number of 340, in connection with 26 different towns and villages. The following notes may serve to shew the objects aimed at in this Mission, and how they have been carried out : Improvements in Church Halls and Class-rooms.-I have had much conversation, conference, and correspondence with those who were building or refitting church halls and Sabbath schools, as to the best modes of seating them. This has been attended with more or less success, according as persons are prepared to study the question for themselves or are 'ready to take the necessary trouble. It sometimes happens that gentlemen not practically acquainted with the variety of uses to which church halls are put, fit them up with heavy and expensive material, quite unsuitable and inconvenient, thus perpetuating for another generation the old-fashioned mistakes; for, once done, it is difficult to get them remedied. As an example of this, in one hall the forms were twelve feet long, made of heavy wood, with thick substantial cast-iron legs. The whole of these forms had to be arranged on Saturday for a meeting of young men on Sabbath morning; re-arranged for the Sabbath school; partially rearranged for a Bible class; and entirely re-arranged for an evangelistic meeting in the evening.
