linge of Relligion, that I shall ever conclud it thus, the more great the more iminent the pills of this world are, the stronger the quicker ought our care to bee for the glorie of god & the pure law of o'. soules, if soe then m". speaker, it may passe wth, full allowance, and that all our cares maye giue way to the Treatie of Relligion, I will reduce alsoe to be considered vnder 2 heads, first of Ecclesiasticall psons, the second of Ecclesiastical Causes, let noe man start or be affrighted at the imagined length of this Consultacon, it will not, it cannot take vpp soe much length as it is worth, this is gods and the kings, this is gods and the kingdomes, nay this is gods and the Two kingdomes cause, and therefore mr Speaker my humble močon is, that we may all of vs seriously, speedily & hartyly, enter vpon the best, the greatest, & most important worke, that we can treat of.

Now m'. speaker, in pursuite of myne owne moĉon, and to make a litle entrance into these great affaires, I will p'sent vnto you the petticon of a poore distressed minister in the Countie of Kent, a man conformable in his practise, orthodox in his doctrine, laborious in his ministree as any we haue, or I knowe, he is now a sufferer as all good men are, in the generall obliquy of a Puritan; as with other thinges, was admirably deluded by that siluer Trumpet, the pursivant waites his dore and deuides his cure and him assunder, to both theire greefes, soe it is not wth him as phaps wth, some, that setts theire pursivant at worke, glad of an excuse to be out of theire pulpits, it is his delights to preach, about a weeke since I went to Lambeth to move the great Bushopp (too great indeed) to take the pursivant away, and whall did vndertake for mr Wilson, (for soe is yor peticoner caled) that he should answere his acuser at any of the Kinges Courtes at Westminster, the Bushopp made mee this answere as neare as I can remember (in hæc verbat.) I am sure he will not be absent from his cure a Twelue monethes, and then I doubt not but once in a yeare we shall haue him, this was all I could obtayne, but I hope by the helpe of this house before the yeare of threats be run out, his grace will either haue more grace, or noe grace at all,

ou' manifould agreevances doe fill a mighty & vayst circumference, yet soe that from every pte our Liues of sorrow doe lead & pointe at him as the Center from wch all miseries doe growe.

Let this petticon be red & let vs enter vpon
the worke.

King of Great Brittaine, ffrance, & Ireland, Defendo". of
the ffaith &c.

The humble Congratulation & Petition of the Ministers, in the
County of Lancaster, whose names are subscribed.

Most humbly sheweth

THAT as we adore that infinitly wise & all powerfull Goodnes, whose immediate hand, beyond all humane contrivances in that miraculous, & astonishing way, hath thus brought yu backe againe, wthout noise or blood, not withstanding all seemingly invincible oppositions, & being sensible of our owne happines therein, thus turned againe out of our sad Captivity & bondage, giving Glory to God, We cannot but wh. ioyfull hearts congra

tulate the safe returne of yo" most Sacred Matie: together with yo' Royall Brethren, as one of the greatest Mercies that ever this land received. And as God hath made y" Such a Mirror of his mercy, & a Miracle of deliverances soe are we confident that he hath preserved yor Matie an Instrument for some glorious worke. Our Church lyes gasping in the confusion of Anarchy, rent, & overwhelm'd wth schisms, errors, heresy, & blasphemy, to the great increase of Popery & Atheisme, for which our Hearts bleed wth, in us. Who knowes whether the wise Providence hath thus long permitted it, to make yu the good Hezekiah, more glorious in the Recovery. We know (& acknowledge it, wth wonder & astonishm', observing the violence of temptations that have surg'd upon y".) your Constancy in the ffaith, & considering yor ffather (whose memory is ever blessed) his unanswerable Answers to those of another way & these sealed wth his blood, (He dyed the Glorious Martyr of or Religion, Lawes, & Liberties) & rememb'ring the words of yo' renowned Grandfather, noe Bishop noe King, soe eminently verifyed in or woefull dayes, We know you are wise as an Angell of God. As tendring therefore the Glory of God, the peace of the Church, & the safty of your Maties: person, We most humbly Pray, that Episcopacy, the Ancient and Apostolicall Governmt, as ancient in this Nation as Christianity itselfe, may be re-incouraged, That ye succession of Bishops may be continued, whereby a lawful Ordination of Ministers may be upheld, which we conceive (through the blessing of God upon it) will be a means to remove those schismes, to repaire those breaches, and to raise up this once glorious, now afflicted, & distracted Church, to its primitive purity & Glory,

And we yor Maties: most Loyall Subjects as in duty bound shall ever pray, wth cherfull hearts, God save the King.
