Hark! the glad sound! the Saviour comes, The Saviour promis'd long; And ev'ry voice a song. In Satan's bondage held; The iron fetters yield. He comes from thickest films of sin To clear the mental ray; To pour celestial day. He comes to bind the broken heart, To make the wounded whole, And bless the humble soul. Our glad hosannas, Prince of Peace ! Thine Advent shall proclaim; ADVENT HYMN. Lo! He comes, with clouds descending, Once for favour'd sinners slain; Thousand thousand saints attending, Swell the triumph of His train : Hallelujah! Amen. Ev'ry eye shall now behold Him, Rob'd in dreadful majesty; Pierc'd and nail'd Him to the tree, Messiah see. Blest redemption, long expected ! See, His solemn pomp to share, All His saints, by man rejected, Rise to meet Him in the air Hallelujah! see the Son of God appears ! Yea, Amen! Let all adore Thee, High on Thine eternal throne; Saviour, take Thy power and glory, Claim the kingdoms for Thine own: Hallelujah! Amen. CHRISTMAS HYMN. Come, Thou long expected Jesus, Born to set Thy people free; From our sins and fears release us, Let us find our rest in Thee. Israel's strength and consolation, Hope of all the earth Thou art; Bless’d desire of ev'ry nation, Joy of ev'ry faithful heart. Born Thy people to deliver ; Born a child and yet a King; Born to reign o'er us for ever, Now Thy gracious kingdom bring. By Thine own Eternal Spirit, Rule in all our hearts alone; By Thine all-sufficient merit, Raise us to Thy glorious throne. |
