ADVENT HYMN.

Hark! the glad sound! the Saviour comes,

The Saviour promis'd long;
Let ev'ry heart prepare a throne,

And ev'ry voice a song.
He comes, the pris'ner to release

In Satan's bondage held;
The gates of brass before Him break,

The iron fetters yield.

He comes from thickest films of sin

To clear the mental ray;
And on the eye long closed in night

To pour celestial day.

He comes to bind the broken heart,

To make the wounded whole,
To preach glad tidings to the meek,

And bless the humble soul.

Our glad hosannas, Prince of Peace !

Thine Advent shall proclaim;
And earth and heaven shall join to sing
The glories of Thy name.

ADVENT HYMN.

Lo! He comes, with clouds descending,

Once for favour'd sinners slain; Thousand thousand saints attending, Swell the triumph of His train :

Hallelujah! Amen.

Ev'ry eye shall now behold Him,

Rob'd in dreadful majesty;
They who set at nought and sold Him,

Pierc'd and nail'd Him to the tree,
Deeply wailing, shall the true

Messiah see.

Blest redemption, long expected !

See, His solemn pomp to share, All His saints, by man rejected,

Rise to meet Him in the air Hallelujah! see the Son of God appears

Yea, Amen! Let all adore Thee,

High on Thine eternal throne; Saviour, take Thy power and glory, Claim the kingdoms for Thine own:

CHRISTMAS HYMN.

Come, Thou long expected Jesus,

Born to set Thy people free; From our sins and fears release us,

Let us find our rest in Thee.

Israel's strength and consolation,

Hope of all the earth Thou art; Bless’d desire of ev'ry nation,

Joy of ev'ry faithful heart.

Born Thy people to deliver ;

Born a child and yet a King; Born to reign o'er us for ever,

Now Thy gracious kingdom bring.

By Thine own Eternal Spirit,

Rule in all our hearts alone; By Thine all-sufficient merit,

Raise us to Thy glorious throne.
