Yet not all unlike was Gennesereth's meeting

To that with the people of Anagh's lone isle,

When first, like the tones of a glad angel's greeting,

Thy Gospel of truth met their welcoming smile.

In the storm, Thy disciples, Redeemer, drew round Thee,

Thy voice bid the tempest and terror to

cease,

'Mid sorrow and trial the Islanders found

Thee,

In darkness and danger, a haven of peace.

Lo! thousands are breaking the spirit's deep slumber,

With the wild waves of error to wager the strife;

By all who oppose them, Lord, add to their number,

And waft their bark safe to the bright land of Life!

LEARNING UNDER DIFFICULTIES.

A LITTLE boy in Luke-street School was very desirous to teach his mother, but she would not believe that the texts were in the Bible at all. She had learned a little reading in her youth, and Joe brought home a Bible, with the texts he had marked. Then he would make her spell out the words. The small ones she knew, and the more difficult he supplied from his memory. In 1 John i. 7, they met with a great difficulty -LIGHT. Joe said it must be light, but how the letters spelt it neither he nor his mother could make out. She reads pretty well now, so does Joe, and they know a great deal of Bible truth.

A very wild little fellow, living near the Mission-school, set himself for a long time to give annoyance to the children. When they were all in School, he would gather together all kinds of rubbish, pile it against the door, then knock, that when the door was opened it might fall in. He was kindly spoken to many times, and at length, prompted by curiosity, he came one day to School. His active mind found full occupation. He delighted in the hymns; singing had a great charm for him. He became gentle and obedient, and now brings his father and mother to the Mission Church.

COMFORT IN TROUBLE.

One day lately a poor woman came into the Baby School in the Coombe. She stood for some time

tears were in her eyes-and she asked the Teacher to allow the children to sing for her. "My three

little ones came here," she said, "and I want to hear over again the hymns they sang: they are all gone to heaven." The Teacher asked which hymn. She said it was about the voice of Jesus; and the children sang

"I heard the voice of Jesus say,
Come unto me and rest;

Lay down, thou weary one, lay down
Thy head upon my breast.

"I came to Jesus as I was,
Weary, and worn, and sad;
I found in Him a resting place,
And He has made glad."

"Yes, that's it," she said; and as they sang, her heart was lightened, for she knew her little ones were in that sweet resting-place where, we trust, she will one day follow them.

A LITTLE TEACHER.

Another little boy went to heaven in autumn. He was very anxious about his mother, and taught her all he knew. The last text he taught
