my need of every help, and with all faith and thanksgiving, may I avail myself of the solemn rite of ordination. Let me neither superstitiously expect it to benefit my heart, unless Thou first be pleased to call me, and I for my part endeavour to make preparation for it: nor let me doubt its power to impart such a measure of Thy Spirit as may be needful for my work but looking only to Thy promise to those who earnestly desire to do Thy will, let me be content to believe neither more nor less concerning it than is agreeable to Thy holy Word and the doctrine of Thy Church, in the true faith and obedience of which be pleased to keep me, for Jesus Christ's sake. Amen.

LORD Jesus Christ, behold me, Thy poor

servant, who for the love of Thee am hastening to lay aside my worldly calling: vouchsafe unto me Thy Holy Spirit to deliver me from all worldly hindrances, and desires of this life; that so being changed, not in outward dress and appearance only, I may by Thee be clothed with the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true

holiness, and not unworthily stand before Thy altar. Amen.

The Prayer for the restoration of unity to

the Church.

GOD, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, our only Saviour, the Prince of Peace: give us grace seriously to lay to heart the great dangers we are in by our unhappy divisions. Take away all hatred and prejudice, and whatsoever else may hinder us from godly union and concord: that as there is but one Body, and one Spirit, and one hope of our calling, one Lord, one faith, one Baptism, one God and Father of us all, so we may henceforth be all of one heart and of one soul, united in one holy bond of truth and peace, of faith and charity, and may with one mind and one mouth glorify Thee: through Jesus Christ our Lorda. Amen.

THE

HE blessing of the most holy Trinity, one eternal God, descend upon me, and remain with me for ever. Amen.

It is much to be desired that all good Christians, especially the clergy, would incorporate this collect in their daily devotions.

SUNDAY NIGHT.

A SHORT OFFICE TO BE USED AFTER ORDINATION.

THE HYMN.

AT length the awful rite is past
And we are set apart,

To serve the Lord from first to last
With undivided heart.

The solemn promise has been given
Which God and man have heard,
To learn and speak the truth of heaven
In action and in word.

O Thou, Who in Thy holy place
Hast set Thine orders three,
Grant us Thy chosen servants grace
To win a good degree.

That so replenish'd from above

And in our office tried,

Thou mayst be honour'd, and in love
Thy Church be edified.

THE LESSON. Jer. i. 17-19.

"THOU therefore gird up thy loins, and arise, and speak unto them all that I command thee; be not dismayed at their faces, lest I confound thee before them. For behold, I have made thee this day a defenced city, and an iron pillar, and brazen walls against the whole land, against the kings of Judah, against the princes thereof, against the priests thereof, and against the people of the land. And they shall fight against thee; but they shall not prevail against thee: for I am with thee, saith the Lord, to deliver thee.

GLORY be to the Father, &c.

OUR Father, &c.

I will wash my hands in innocence, O Lord, And so will I go to Thine altar.

PRAYERS.

LORD our God, who hast promised that they who forsake all the things of this world shall be worthy of Thee: I commend

H

the small service that I can do for Thee to the unspeakable sweetness of Thy heart, and set it from henceforth before Thee, to direct, correct, and perfect it. Accept me, Thy servant, who have now renounced all according to Thy holy commands: both for myself and for all the faithful, I offer Thee all myself, my body and soul, my strength and faculties, my thoughts and understanding, my time and affections, my substance, my fame, my friends, my liberty, and my life. Gracious Lord, who alone art worthy of all our service, let me serve and please Thee according to my duty, with all my heart and strength; giving Thee thanks and doing Thee honour, and continuing in the faith and fear and love of Thee, to my eternal happiness, through Jesus Christ. Amen.

OW, Lord, I am not mine, but Thine,

NOW,

therefore claim me as Thy right, keep me as Thy charge, and love me as Thy child. Fight for me when I am assaulted, heal me when I am wounded, and revive me when I am destroyed. What have I now to do but labour, and pray, and fast, and watch for the salvation of my own soul and those of my
