THE HYMN.

LORD, if in vessels mean
Thou deign'st to place
The treasures of Thy grace,
O make those vessels clean!

Touch with an altar coal
These lips of mine:

And by Thy power divine,

O sanctify my soul.

Cleanse it with Thy pure word,

And make it bright;

And on my forehead write, "Holiness to the Lord."

Set light upon my breast,
And perfectness,

And, like a comely dress,
Let grace my loins invest.

If thus in meet attire
By Thee arrayed,
I shall not be afraid
To touch Thy holy fire.

THE LESSON. Lev. xxii. 1-3, 9, 15, 16.

"AND the Lord spake unto Moses, saying, Speak unto Aaron and to his sons, that they separate themselves from the holy things of the children of Israel, and that they profane not My holy name in those things which they hallow unto Me: I am the Lord. Say unto them, Whosoever he be of all your seed among your generations, that goeth unto the holy things, which the children of Israel hallow unto the Lord, having his uncleanness upon him, that soul shall be cut off from My presence: I am the Lord. They shall therefore keep Mine ordinance, lest they bear sin for it, and die therefore, if they profane it: I the Lord do sanctify them. And they shall not profane the holy things of the children of Israel, which they offer unto the Lord; or suffer them to bear the iniquity of trespass, when they eat their holy things: for I the Lord do sanctify them."

PRAYERS.

LORD, who hast adorned the whole crea

tion with the splendour of Thy marvellous acts who knowest the thoughts and intentions of our hearts before they be conceived: and who strengthenest those who desire to perform due obedience to Thee: give Thy strength unto me Thy servant who have chosen to wait upon Thy holy ministry: and grant that hereafter I may appear pure in Thy sight, and having obtained the crown of immortal life, may rejoice with Thine elect in the eternal blessedness of Thy kingdom. For Thy name is magnified, and Thy kingdom is glorified, O Father, Son, and Holy Ghost, now and for ever, even unto ages of ages. Amen.

ETERNAL God, who dwellest not in temples made with hands, the heaven of heavens cannot contain Thee, and yet Thou

art pleased to manifest Thy presence amongst us by special acts of favour and benediction. Sanctify my soul and body, that they may be a temple, pure and holy, fit and prepared for the entertainment of the holy Jesus and the habitation of Thy ever-blessed Spirit. Cast out from thence all unclean imaginations, all worldly affections, all covetous desires, that it may be a place of prayer and meditation. Give me a pure soul in a chaste and healthful body, a spirit full of holy simplicity, pious designs and a perfect religion, that I may intend what Thou commandest, and by proper means accomplish what I intend, that by Thy aid I may obtain the end of my labours, and the rewards of obedience and a holy life, even the society and inheritance of Thee, my Saviour, in the participation of the joys of Thy temple, where Thou ever livest with the Father and the Holy Ghost, one God ever blessed. Amen.

GOD, who art of purer eyes than to be

world and my treacherous heart, I have wallowed securely in sins and made a mock of

them. I have looked upon objects that have inflamed my lust, irritated my passions, and kindled hell-fire in my breast. What impure, what disorderly thoughts have I let into my soul through mine eyes and ears! Alas, how often have I polluted myself in seeing and hearing, in thinking and doing! O cast me not away from Thy presence, but create in me a clean heart, and renew a right spirit within me. Let me never more judge of sin by the sickly fancies of carnal men, but by the holiness of Thy nature; and as Thou, my God, who hast called me, art holy entirely, so make me holy in all manner of conversation. Make me afraid of every impure thought, and of the least appearance of evil, and let the words of my mouth and the meditations of my heart be always acceptable in Thy sight, O Lord, my strength and my Redeemer. Amen.

GOD, who alone art worthy of our love, give me grace that I may never forget Thee, nor Thy glorious perfections; but that I may serve Thee according to Thy word, lifting up pure hands, with sincerity and
