The Riverside Press, Cambridge, Mass., U. S. A.
SINCE the first appearance of “Silas Marner” in the Riverside Literature Series, increased attention has been paid to the study of fiction in its great forms, and this book offers so admirable a subject for analytical and constructive criticism, that a new edition is now issued, more fully equipped for this purpose. Besides the general Introduction by Mr. Bliss Carman which has always accompanied the publication in this series, and the explanatory notes at the end of the volume, the Publishers now present with pleasure “The Study of Silas Marner,” a “Chronology of the Life and Works of George Eliot,” “ References for the Study of George Eliot's Life,”
Suggestions to Teachers," and finally, at the end of the volume, “ Topics for Study,” all these additions being prepared by Mrs. H. A. Davidson. The volume, thus equipped, is singularly well adapted for promoting a serious study of this work of literary art.
