[blocks in formation]

This story of Mrs. Soule is so well known to our readers, that any notice from us would be superfluous. We take up the volume with somewhat the feeling, we imagine, that our children look upon a completed picture formed by pretty pictured blocks. Each chapter has been a story by itself full of incident, and placed in these neat covers and woven together, we have now a complete history of western life. We have been told that woman degenerates in western homes, but the author of the Pet of the Settlement, in the capacity of wife, mother, housekeeper, and writer, makes us doubt the assertion, and as we are inclined to the bright rather than the dark side of a picture, we shall look upon her as the type of western womanhood.

A new chapter, "The Maniac," is added to the story since its publication in our pages, and we hope next month to give it to our readers.-Editor Ladies' Repository.

On receipt of the price, as above, we will send the book my mail and pay postage.
