22 And Pharaoh charged all his people, faying, Every fon that is born, ye shall caft into the river, and every daughter ye fhall fave alive. CHAP. II.

1 Mofes is born, and put into the flags. 5 He is found and brought up by Pharaoh's daughter. 15 He fleeth into M.dian. AND there went a man of the house of Levi, and took to wife a daughter of Levi.

2 And the woman conceived, and bare a fun and when the faw him that he was a goodly cb lä, she hid him three months.

14 And he said, Who made thee a prince and a judge over us: Intendeft thou to kill me, as thou killed ft the Egyptian? And Moles feared, and faid, Surely this thing is known.

151 Now when Pharaoh heard this thing, he fought to flay Mofes But Mofes fled from the face of Pharaoli, and dwelt in the land of Midian: and he fat down by a well.

16 Now the priest of Midian had feven daughters and they came and drew w.ter and filled the troughs to water their father's flock.

17 And the shepherds came and drove them away but Mofes stood up and helped them, and watered their flock.

18 And when they came to Reuel their father, he faid, How is it that ye are come ¡fo loon today?

3 And when he could not longer hide 19 And they faid, An Egyptian delivhim, he took for him an ark of bulrushered us out of the hand of the shepherds, es, and daubed it with fime and with and alfo drew water enough for us, and pitch, and put the child therein; and the watered the flock. laid in the flags by the river's brink. And his fifter flood afar off, to wit what would be done to him.

5 And the daughter of Pharaoh came down to walk berfelt at the river; and her maidens walked along by the river's fide; and when the faw the ark among the flags, he fent her maid to fetch it.

6 And when he had opened it the faw the child: and, behold, the babe wept.. And he had compaffion on him, and faid, This is one of the Hebrew's children

7Then faidhis fifter to Pharaoh's daughter, Shall I go and call to thee a nurfe of the Hebrew women, that the may nurse the child for thee?

8 And Pharaoh's daughter faid to her, Go. And the maid went and called the child's mother.

9 And Pharaoh's daughter faid unto her, Take thi child away, and nurfeit for me, and I will give thee thy wages. And the woman took the child, and nurfed it.

10 And the child grew, and the brought him unto Pharaoh's daughter, and he became her fon. And the called his name Mofes and she said, Because I drew him out of the water.

11 And it came to pafs in thofe days, when Mofes vas grown, that he went out! unto his brethren, and looked on their burdens: and he fpied an Egyptian fmiting an Hebrew, one of his brethren.

12 And he looked this way and that way,and when he faw that there was no man, he flew the Egyptian, and hid him in the fand.

13 And when he went out the fecond day, behold, two men of the Hebrews ftrove together: and he faid to him that did the wrong, Wherefore fmiteft thou thy fellow ?

20 And he faid unto his daughters, And where is he? Why is it that ye have left the man? Call him that he may eat bread.

21 AndMofes was content to dwell with the man; and he gave Mofes Zipporah his daughter.

22 And the bare him a son, and he called his name Gerthom : for he said, I have been a ftranger in a ftrange land.

23 And it came to pats in process of time, that the king of Egypt died and the children of Ifrael fighed by reason of the bondage, and they cried, and their cry came up unto God by reason of the bondage.

24 And God heard their groaning, and God remembered his covenant with Abraham, with Ifaac, and with Jacob,

25 And God looked upon the children of Ifrael, and God had refpect unto them. CHAP. II.

NOW Mofes kept the flock of Jethro his father-in-law, the priest of Midian : and he led the flock to the back fide of the defert, and came to the mountain of God, even to Horeb,

21 And the angel of the LORD appeared unto han in a flame of fire out of the mid tufa bush: and he looked, and, behoid, the buth burned with fire, and the both was not confumed.

3 And Mofes faid, I will now turn afide, and fee this great light, why the bush is not burnt.

4 And when the LORD faw that he turned afide to fee. God called unto him out of the midst of the bush, and faid, Mofes, Mofes And he faid, Here am I.

5 And he faid, Draw not nigh hither; put

6 Moreover he faid, I am the God of thy father, the God of Abraham, the God of Ifaac, and the God of Jacob. And Mofes hid his face; for he was afraid to look upon God.

7 And the LORD faid, I have furely feen the affliction of my people which are in Egypt, and have heard their cry by reafon of their tafk-masters; for I know their forrows;

8 And I am comedown to deliver them out of the hand of the Egyptians, and to bring them up out of that land unto a good land and a large, unto a land flowing with milk and honey; unto the place of the Canaanites, and the Hittites, and the Amorites, and the Perizzites, and the Hivites, and the Jebufites.

18 And they fhall hearken to thy voice: and thou shalt come, thou and the elders of Ifrael unto the king of Egypt, and ye hall fay unto him, The LORD God of the Hebrews hath met with us: and now let us go we beseech thee, three days' journey into the wilderness, that we may facrifice to the LORD our God,

19 And I am fure that the king of Egypt will not let you go, no, not by a mighty hand.

20 And I will stretch out my hand, and fmite Egypt with all my wonders which I will do in the midft thereof; and after that he will let you go.

21 And I will give this people favour in the fight of the Egyptians: and it fhall come to pafs, that, when ye go, ye stall not go empty :

11 And Mofes faid unto God, Who am I, that I should go unto Pharaoh, and that I fhould bring forth the children of Ifrael out of Egypt?

CHAP. IV.

Mofes's rod is turned into a ferpent: 6
His band isleprous. 21 God's meage

AND Mofes anfwered and faid, But, bel.old, they will not believe me, nor 12 And he faid, Certainly I will be with hearken unto my voice: for they will fay, thee; and this shall be a token unto thee, The LORD hath not appeared unto thee. that I have fent thee: when thou haft 2 And the LORD faid unto him, What brought forth the people out of Egypt,ye is that in thine hand? 13 And Mofes faid unto God. Behold, when I come unto the children of Ifrael, and fhall fay unto them, The God of your fathers hath fent me unto you; and they thall fay to me, What is his name? What fhall I fay unto them?

3 And he said, Caft it on the ground. And he caft it on the ground, and it be. came a ferpent; and Mofes led from before it.

4 And the LORD faid unto Mofes, Put forth thine hand, and take it by the tail. 14 And God faid unto Mofes, I AM And he put forth his hand, and caught THAT I AM : and he said, Thus fhalt, it, and it became a rod in his hand : thou fay unto the children of Ifrael, I 5 That they may believe that the LORD AM hath fent me unto you. God of their fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Ifaac, and the God of Jacob, hath appeared unto thee.

15 And God faid moreover unto Mofes, Thus fhalt thou fay unto the children of Ifrael, The LORD God of your fathers, 6 1 And the LORD faid furthermore the God of Abraham, the God of Ifaac, unto him, Put now thine hand into thy and the God of Jacob, hath fent me unto bofom. And he put his hand into his boyou; this is my name forever, and this fom: and when he took it out, behold, is my memoriai unto all generations. his hand was leprous as fnow.

16 Go, and gather the elders of Ifrael together, and fay unto them, The LORD God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, of Ifaac, and of Jacob, appeared unto me faying, I have furely visited you, and feen that which is done to you in Egypt:

17 And I have faid,I will bring you up out of the affliction of Egypt unto the land of the Canaanites, and the Hittites, and the Amorites, and the Perizzites, and the

7 And he faid, Put thine hand into thy bofom again. And he put his hand into his bofom again; and plucked it out of his bofom, and, behold, it was turned again as his other flesh.

8 And it fhall come to pafs, if they will not believe thee, neither hearken to the voice of the firft fign, that they will believe the voice of the latter fign.

10 And Mofes faid unto the LORD, O my Lord, I am not eloquent, neither 27 And the LORD faid to Aaron, Go heretofore, nor fince thou haft fpoken un-into the wilderness to meet Moies. And,

to thy fervant: but I am flow of fpeech, and of a flow tongue.

11 And the LORD faid unto him, Who hath made man's mouth? or, who maketh the dumb, or deaf, or the feeing, or the blind? have not the LORD?

12 Now therefore go, and I will be with thy mouth, and teach thee what thou fhalt fay.

13 And he faid, O`my Lord, fend I pray thee, by the hand of him whom thou wilt fend.

14 And the anger of the LORD was kindled against Mofes, and he faid, is not Aaron the Levite thy brother? I know that he can speak well. And alfo, behold, he cometh forth to meet thee: and when he feeth thee, he will be glad in his heart. 15 And thou shalt speak unto him and put words in his mouth and I will be with thy mouth, and with his mouth, and will teach you what ye fhall do.

he went, and met him in the mount of God, and kiffed him.

28 And Mofes told Aaron all the words of the LORD who had fent him, and all the figns which he had commanded him.

29 And Mofes and Aaron went and gathered together all the elders of the children of Ifrael :

30 And Aaron fpake all the words which the LORD had spoken unto Mofes, and did the figns in the light of the people.

31 And the people believed: and when they heard that the LORD had visited the children of Ifrael, and that he had looked upon their affliction, then they bowed their heads and worshipped.

CHAP. V.

Pharaob chideth Mofes and Aaron.
He increafeth the Ifraelites' tajk. 22
Mofes complaineth to God.

AND afterwards Mofes and Aaron went in and told Pharaoh, Thus faith the 16 And he shall be thy fpokefman unLORD God of Ifrael, Let my people go, to the people: and he thall be, even he that they may hold a feaft unto me in the fhall be to thee inftead of a mouth, and wilderness. thou shalt be to him inftead of God

17 And thou shalt take this rod in thine hand, wherewith thou shalt do figns.

18 And Mofes went and returned to Jethro his father-in-law, and faid unto him, Let me go I pray thee, and return unto my bretheren which are in Egypt, and fee whether they be yet alive. And Jethro faid to Mofes, Go in peace.

2 And Pharaoh faid, Who is the LORD, that I fhould obey his voice to let ifrael go? I know not the LORD, neither will let Ifrael go.

8 And they faid, The God of the Hebrews hath met with us: let us go, we pray thee, three days' journey into the defert, and facrifice unto the LORD our God; left he fall uponus with peftilence, or with the fword.

19 And the LORD faid unto Mofes in Midian, Go, return into Egypt: for all 4 And the king of Egypt faid unto the men are dead which fought thy life. them. Wherefore do ye, Mofes and Aa20 And Mofes took his wife, and his ron, let the people from their works? Get fons, and fet them upon an afs, and he re-you unto your burdens. turned to the land of Egypt: and Mofes took the rod of God in his hand.

21 And the LORD faid unto Mofes, When thou goeft to return into Egypt, fee that thou do all thofe wonders before Pharaoh, which I have put in thine hand but I will harden his heart, that he fhall not let the people go.

22 And thou thalt fay unto Pharaoh, Thus faith the LORD, Ifrael is my lon, even my first-born:

51 And Pharaoh faid, Behold, the people of the land now are many, and ye make them reft from their burdens.

6 And Pharaoh commanded the fame day the tafk-mafters of the people, and their officers, faying,

7 Ye thall no more give the people ftraw to make brick, as heretofore: let them go and gather raw for themselves.

8 And the tale of the bricks, which tl.ey did make heretofore, ye fhall lay upon 23 And I fay unto thee, Let my fon go, them; ye shall not diminish augthereof: that he may ferve me: and if thou refufe for they be idle; therefore they cry, layto let him go, behold, I will flay thy fon,ng, Let us go and facrifice to our God. even thy firft-born.

24 And it came to pafs by the way in the inn, that the Lo&D niet him, and fought to kill him.

25 Then Zipporah took a fharp ftone

9 Let there more work be laid upon the men, that they may labour therein, and let them not regard vain words.

10 And the talk-mafters of the people went out, and their officers, and they

EXODUS. The genealogy of Reuben, &c. Almighty, but by my name JEHOVAH was I not known to them.

fpake to the people, faying, Thus faith Pharaoh, I will not give you ftraw.

11 Go ye, get you ftraw where ye can find it yet not aught of your work fhall be diminished.

12 So the people were fcattered abroad throughour all the land of Egypt, to gath er ftubble instead of ftraw.

13 And the tak-masters hafted them, faying, Fulfil your works, your daily talks, as when there was ftraw.

14 And the officers of the children of Ifrael, which Pharaoh s task-mafters had fet over them, were beaten and demand. ed, Wherefore have ye not fulfilled your talk in making brick, both yesterday and to day, as heretofore??

4 And I have alfo eftablished my covenant with them to give them the land of Canaan, the land of their pilgrimage, wherein they were strangers.

5 And I have alfo heard the groaning of the children of Ifrael, whom the Egyp tians keep in bondage; and I have remembered my covenant.

6 Wherefore fay unto the children of Ifrael, I am the LORD, and I will bring you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians, and I will rid you our of their bondage, and I will redeem you with a stretched out arm, and with great judg

ments:

15 Then the officers of the children of 7 And I will take you to me for a peoIfrael came and cried unto Pharaoh, fay-ple, and I will be to you a God: and ye ing, Wherefore dealeft thou thus with hall know that I am the LORD your God, thy fervants ? which bringeth you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians.

17 But he faid, Ye are idle, ye are idle: therefore ye fay, Let us go and do facrifice to the LORD.

18 Go therefore now, and work; for there fhall no ftraw be given you, yet hall ye deliver the tale of bricks.

19 And the officers of the children of Ifrael did fee that they were in evil cafe, after it was faid, Ye fhall not diminish augh from your bricks of your daily

task.

21 And they faid unto them, The LORD look upon you, and judge; becaufe ye have made our favour to be abhorred in the eyes of Pharaoh, and in the eyes of his fervants, to put a fword in their hand to flay us.

221 And Mofes returned unto the LORD, and faid, LORD. Wherefore haft thou fo evil entreated this people? why is it that thou haft fent me?

28 For fince I came to Pharaoh to fpeak in thy name, he hath done evil to this people; neither haft thou delivered thy people at all.

CHAP. VI.

God rene weth his promife by his name JEHOVAH. 14 The genealogy of Reuben, 15 of Simeon, 16 of Levi.

.8 And I will bring you in unto the land, concerning the which I did fwear te give it to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob; and I will give it you for an heritage: I am the LORD.

9 And Mofes fpake fo unto the childrea of Ifrael: but they hearkened not unto Mofes for anguish of fpirit, and for cruel bondage.

10 nd the LORD fpake unto Mofes, faying.

11 Go in, fpeak unto Pharaoh king of Egypt, that he let the children of Ifracl go out of his land.

12 And Mofes fpake before the LORD, faying, Behold, the children of Ifrael have not hearkened unto me; how then thall Pharaoh hear me, who am of uncircumcifed lips?

13 And the LORD fpake unto Moles and unto Aaron, and gave them a charge unto the children of Ifrael, and unto Pharaoh king of Egypt, to bring the children of Ifrael out of the land of Egypt.

14 Thefe be the heads of their father houfes: the fons of Reuben the firft-born of Ifrael: Hanoch, and Pallu, Hezron, and Carmi; thefe be the fami lies of Reuben.

15% And the fons of Simeon; Jemuel, and Jamin, and Ohad, and Tachin, and Zohar, and Shaul the fon of a Canaanitith woman: thefe are the families of Simeon.

16 And thefe are the names of the fons of Levi, according to their generaTHEN the LORD faid unto Mofes, tions; Gerhon, and Kohath, and MeNow fhalt thou fee what I will do to Pha-rari: and the years of the life of Levi raoh for with a ftrong hand hall he let them go, and with a ftrong hand fhall he drive them cut of his land.

2 And God fpake unto Mofes, and faid unto him, I am the LORD:

3 And I appeared unto Abraham, unto Ifaac, and unto Jacob, by the name of God

were an hundred thirty and feven years. 17 The fons of Gerthon; Libni and Shimi, according to their families.

18 And the fons of Kohath; Amram. and Izhar, and Hebron, and Uzziel : and the years of the life of Kohath were an hundred thirty and three years.

Mofes is encouraged.

Chap. vii. Pharaoh's heart is hardened. A

19 And the fons of Merari; Mahli the children of Ifrael from among them. and Muthi: thefe are the families of Levi according to their generations.

20 And Amram took him Jochebed his father's fifter to wife; and the bare him Aaron and Mofes and the years of the life of Amram were an hundred and thirty and feven years.

21 And the fons of Izhar; Korah, and Nepheg, and Zichri.

22 And the fons of Uzziel; Mihael, and Elzaphan, and Zithri.

23 And Aaron took him Elisheba, daughter of Amminadab, fifter of Naafon, to wife; and the bare him Nadab, and Abihu, Eleazar, and Ithamar.

24 And the fons of Korah; Affir, and Elkanah, and Abiafaph: these are the families of the Korhites.

25 And Eleazar, Aaron's fon, took him one of the daughters of Putiel to wife; and the bare him Phinehas: thefe are the heads of the fathers of the Levites according to their families.

26 Thefe are that Aaron and Mofes, to whom the LORD faid, Bring out the children of Ifrael from the land of Egypt according to their armies.

27 Thefe are they which fpake to Pharaoh king of Egypt, to bring out the children of Ifrael from Egypt: thefe are that Mofes and Aaron.

28 And it came to pafs on the day when the LORD fpake unto Mofes in the land of Egypt,

29 That the LORD fpake unto Moles, faying, I am the LORD: fpeak thou unto Pharaoh king of Egypt all that I fay

unto thee.

30 And Mofes faid before the LORD, Behold, I am of uncircumcifed lips, and, how fhall Pharaoh hearken unto me? CHAP. VII.

1 Mofes is encouraged to go to Pharaoh. 10 His rod is turned into a ferpent. 13 Pharaoh's heart is hardened. 19 The river is turned into blood.

AND the LORD faid unto Mofes, See, I have made thee a god to Pharaoh: and Aaron thy brother fall be thy prophet.

2 Thou shalt fpeak all that I command thee and Aaron thy brother fhall fpeak unto Pharaoh, that he fend the children of Ifrael out of his land.

S And I will harden Pharaoh's heart, and multiply my figns and my wonders in the land of Egypt.

But Pharaoh hall not hearken unto you, that I may lay my hand upon Egypt, and bring forth mine armies, and my people the children of Ifrael, out of the land of Egypt, by great judgments.

5 And the Egyptians fhall know that 1 am the LORD, when I ftretch forth mine hand upon Egypt, and bring out H

6 And Mofes and Aaron did as the LORD commanded them, fo did they.

7 And Mofes was fourfcore years old, and Aaron fourfcore and three years old, when they fpake unto Pharaoh.

8 And the LORD fpake unto Mofes and unto Aaron, laying,

9 When Pharaoh fhall fpeak unto you, faying, Shew a miracle for you: then thou halt fay unto Aaron, Take thy rod, and caft it before Pharaoh, and it fhall become a ferpent.

10 And Mofes and Aaron went in unto Pharaoh, and they did fo as the LORD had commanded: and Aaron caft down his rod before Pharaoh and before his fervants, and it became a ferpent.

11 Then Pharaoh also called the wife men and the forcerers: now the magi cians of Egypt, they alfo did in like manner with their enchantments:

12 For they caft down every man his rod, and they became ferpents: but Aaron's rod fwallowed up their rods.

131 And he hardened Pharaoh's heart, that he hearkened not unto them; as the LORD had faid.

14 And the LORD faid unto Mofes, Pharaoh's heart is hardened, he refufeth to let the people go.

15 Get thee unto Pharaoh in the morning; lo, he goeth out unto the water; and thou fhalt ftand by the river's brink againft he comes; and the rod which was turned to a ferpent (halt thou take in thine hand.

16 And thou shalt fay unto him, The LORD God of the Hebrews hath fent me unto thee, faying, Let my people go, that they may ferve me in the wilderness: and, behold, hitherto thou wouldest not hear.

17 Thus faith the LORD, in this thou fhalt know that I am the LORD: behold, I will fmite with the rod that is in mine hand upon the waters which are in the river, and they thall be turned to blgod.

18 And the fish that is in the river fhall die, and the river fhall flink; and the Egyptians hall loathe to drink of the water of the river.

19 ¶ And the LORD fpake unto Mofes, Say unto Aaron, take thy rod, and ftretch out thine hand upon the waters of Egypt, upon their streams, upon their rivers, and upon their ponds, and upon all their pools of water, that they may become blood; and tbar there may be blood throughout all the land of Egypt, both in vefels of wood, and in veffels of stone.

20 And Mofes and Aaron did fo, as the LORD commanded; and he lifted up the rod, and fmote the waters that were in the river, in the fight of Pharaoh, and in the fight of his fervants; and all the
