and strengthen me always to confess Thee before men, that I may be Thine for ever. ΑΜΕΝ.

Then, kneeling down, first say,

"O! HOLY GHOST, teach me to know myself, and my sins."

Keep on your knees, and carefully examine your conscience; think over the whole of the day past-where you have been, what you have been doing, whom you have seen and talked with? When you have done this, ask yourself the following questions, or any others which may better help you to find out your faults.

Have I prayed to-day as I ought-in the morning at noon-during my work? Have I watched over my words-over my temper-over my behaviour with others?

Have I been patient and industrious, doing all things as unto God, and not only to please men?

Have I thought evil of any one, said anything untrue, or done anything deceitful?

Have I now any particular sin on my conscience?

Have I any special mercy to be thankful for this night?

In asking yourself these questions, whenever you find that you have done wrong, confess your sin at once to Almighty God; try to feel heartily ashamed and sorry for your fault --and beg of Him very humbly and earnestly to forgive you, and to help you by His grace to do better for the time to come.

When you have thus examined yourself, think

how the LORD JESUS suffered and died on the Cross to save you from the punishment due to your sins, and say,

"By Thine Agony and BLOODY SWEAT; by Thy Cross and Passion: Good JESUS, Dardon and save me!"

O Almighty God and Heavenly FATHER, I thank Thee for all the mercies of the day past, and of my whole life. I confess with shame and sorrow that I have not loved Thee, served Thee, nor obeyed Thee as I ought to have done. For JESUS CHRIST's sake have pity on me, and forgive me all my sins; grant me Thy HOLY SPIRIT to sanctify me and help me to do better. O make me desire more and more to pray to Thee, to read Thy Holy Word, [ and to receive the Blessed Sacrament of Thy BODY and BLOOD*] and help me to keep Thee always in my thoughts, that I may become more and more Thine Own, for JESUS CHRIST's sake. AMEN.

O LORD, have mercy upon the whole

This is to be said only by persons who have been Confirmed, or who, being "ready and desirous to be Confirmed " are "admitted to the Holy Communion."

Church; heal the sick, comfort the sorrowful; turn the hearts of sinners to fear and love Thee: bless all my dear friends and relations, especially [HERE MENTION YOUR PARENTS, BROTHERS, SISTERS, &c.] and give them grace to lead good lives. Let Thy Holy Angels watch over us this night, and guard us from all danger both of body and soul; through JESUS CHRIST our LORD. AMEN.

Then say the LORD'S PRAYER, Our FATHER, &c.

The grace of our LORD JESUS CHRIST, and the love of GoD, and the fellowship of the HOLY GHOST, be with us all this night, and for evermore. AMEN.

Whilst you are undressing, think that GOD may before long call upon you to prepare for death, or that He may require your soul of you without giving you time for preparation, and pray thus:

LORD, have mercy upon me, now and death!

at the hour of my

In the hour of death, and in the day of judgment, Good LORD, deliver me! "O merciful Saviour, suffer me not at last hour, for any pains of death, to fall from Thee!"

As you close your eyes to sleep say,

"Into Thy Hands, O LORD, I commend my spirit; for Thou hast redeemed me, O LORD GOD of truth!"

Try to repeat to yourself any hymns or verses of Scripture that you may know by heart until you fall asleep. Suffer no vain earthly thoughts to have place in your mind; but rest in peace, as it were, in the ARMS of JESUS, lifting your soul to Him in deep thankfulness for His great love to you and all mankind.
