II. Mustering Officers.

GENERAL ORDERS

HEADQUARTERS, DEPARTMENT OF THE GULF,

19th ARMY CORPS,

Nero Orleans, July 29, 1863.

No. 54.

I. Brigadier General CHARLES P. STONE is announced as Chief of Staff at these Headquarters, from the 25th instant.

II. The following changes in the list of mustering officers, under the provisions of General Orders No, 48, current series, from the War Department, Adjutant General's Office, are announced for the information and government of all codcerned :

Appointed. Major Charles J. Von Hermann, Additional Aide-de-Camp, Acting Assistant Commissary of Musters for the Defences of New Orleans, including Ship Island; appointed July 29, 1863.

Captain John L. Ward, 50th Massachusetts Volunteers, Commissary of Musters for the Corps d'Afrique and all troops serving at Port Hudson, rot belonging to the Divisions of the 19th Corps ; appointed July 22, 1863.

Relieved. Captain James Benkard, Additional Aide-de-Camp, Assistant Commissary of Musters for the 1st Division, July 16, 1863, having been granted lcare of absence.

Captain Adam Badeau, Additional Aide-de Camp, Assistant Commissary of Musters for the 2d Division, July 13, 1863, having been granted leave of absence on account of wounds received in battle.

CIRCULAR.

The following circular from the War Department, Adjutant General's Office, is republished for the information and government of all concerned.

Commanders of Divisions, detached Brigades and Districts will at once select and send in the names of the officers and men required to be detailed by this circular. The necessary orders will be issued from these Headquarters. The lists must be consolidated for each Division, detached Brigade or District, and will indicate the number of men required to fill up each regiment to the maximum.

The following are announced as rendezvous for drafted men, for the States named : MAINE..

.Portland. NEW HAMPSHIRE

Concord. VERMONT.

..Brattleboro'. MASSACHUSETTS.

.Springfield.

For the purpose of receiving and conducting to their several regiments, the men of the draft assigned to all them up, Commanding Generals of Departments and Armies will immediately detail from each of the three-year regiments of their commands, belonging to the States above enumerated, three commissioned officers and six enlisted men, and direct them to report, without delay, to the commanding officer of the rendezvous for their State. In States which have more than one rendezvous, the detachments for the respective regiments will be instructed to report to the commanding officer of that rendezvous nearest to which the regiment was recruited and organized.

The officers and enlisted men selected under this order must be judicious and reliable. To these requirements commanding officers of divisions and brigades will give their personal attention.

The commandants of rendezvous will be informed of the number of drafted men to be sent to each regiment. They will lose no time in preparing the detachments and placing them en route for their regiments, as soon as the requisite numbers can be made up.
