Fig. 1st. High dress of light grey silk; the skirt long and full, has a very broad plaiting à vieille at the bottom. The high body has five points at the waist trimmed with a narrow plaiting à vieille: across the front five rows of plaiting are disposed en brandebourgs. The sleeves are of the wide pagoda form and are finished to correspond with the body. Algerine shawl of white grenadine striped with blue. Capulet or hood of the finest cashmere, lined with silk and edged with a very narrow black velvet. SEA-SIDE COSTUME. Fig. 2nd.-High dress of striped muslin, the skirt long and extremely full. The body is perfectly plain, with full bishop sleeves plaited down at the top it has no jacket, but is finished at the waist by a ceinture of ribbon to match the stripe in the muslin. Chale Mantelet of the same muslin, trimmed with two deep frills, the top one set on with a narrow heading. Chapeau de jardin or garden hat of white muslin, the edge of brim finished by a fall of white lace and rúche of narrow ribbon; there is a rûche round the bottom of crown and bow of ribbon at the back; the sides are ornamented with field flowers. HOME COSTUME. Fig. 3rd-Dress à deux jupes of taffetas d'Italie, the bottom of the second skirt trimmed with a very broad plait of ribbon of the same colour as the dress. The plain high body has the fronts crossed en brandebourgs by narrow plaits of ribbon. Bishop sleeves, three-quarter length, the bottom gathered into a narrow band, which is PROMENADE COSTUME. Fig. 1st.-Dress of brown moire antique with very narrow stripes, and blue silk quadrilled with black; in the skirt, which is extremely full, the breadths of silk are placed alternately. The body is of moire antique, fitting the figure perfectly; the fronts are faced with blue silk èn plastron, closing by small buttons. The sleeves have a narrow plain piece at the top with deep flounce forming pagoda; in the front of the sleeve is a band of blue silk, and the bottom is trimmed by two ruches of blue ribbon, with black stripe at the edge; at the bottom of the plain piece is another rûche, and one round the armhole. Bonnet of paille de riz, trimmed with black lace, feathers and scarlet poppies: túlle cap with poppies and broad white strings. YOUNG LADY'S COSTUME. Fig. 2nd-Frock à deux jupes of plain grey barège; the second skirt open at the sides, is trimmed round with green ribbon having narrow black stripes, at each side a bow of ribbon at the top of the opening. The low square body has bias folds of barège both at the back and front, and is ornamented with ribbon; the epaulette is formed by folds of barège, and a bow ornaments the top of shoulder: under body of plaited muslin, with very full bishop sleeves. White silk bonnet trimmed with green ribbon. SEA-SIDE COSTUME. Fig. 3rd.-Plain high dress of marigoldcoloured gros de tours. Burnous of a striped woollen material, very fine and soft, it is light and not too warm at the bottom is a flounce of the same, set on with a little fulness and heading. The hood is ornamented by a rúche and bow of ribbon. Capulet or hood of white silk, or if preferred, of crape lined with silk; the bavolet or curtain of the hood should be very deep; it is edged by a narrow rûche, and has a bow of ribbon to correspond with the burnous. PLATE THE THIRD. BALL COSTUME. Fig. 1st.-Double skirt of white túlle; the first skirt has bouillons of tûlle reaching nearly to the knee: the second skirt is draped, and has bouillons of túlle placed at equal distances, enclosed by rûches of pink ribbon. Corsage of pink glacée, the waist with five points; it is trimmed entirely round, and the seams covered by narrow ruches; the front is trimmed the same as the back, the centre being ornamented by a bouquet of flowers full short sleeves of white tulle, with silk epaulettes cut in three points; they are edged with a ruche: these points, and those at the waist, are each ornamented by a bow of ribbon. EVENING COSTUME. Fig. 2nd.-Dress of pale amber taffetas, the skirt with two deep flounces of white lace, the top flounce headed by a small wreath of violets. Low pointed body, draped by bias folds of túlle; a wreath of violets round the top of corsage, a group of the same ornamenting the centre: very full short sleeves of white tulle with silk epaulette, the edge trimmed with violets. BALL OR EVENING COSTUME. Fig. 3rd. -Dress of rich glacée, shaded pale emerald green and white: at the bottom of the skirt are seven bouillons of túlle which reach to about one third its length: the remainder of the skirt is covered by a very deep chantilly flounce, which is raised on the left side by a bouquet of flowers and floating branches: garlands of flowers also droop from the waist. Low pointed corsage and very full short sleeves of white tulle: deep bèrthe of chantilly lace, the centre or namented by a bouquet. PLATE THE FOURTH. HOME COSTUME. Fig. 1st.-Skirt of pale lavender silk; it is long and full, but withont trimming of any description. Canezou of thin white muslin, the skirt very deep; it has a hem and two tucks, above which is a narrow rûche of net; the front is closed by small bows of pink ribbon a frill is set on in the form of bretelles capes headed by a double rúche of net; at the back the capes meet in a point and are finished by a bow of ribbon; in the front the ends cross and terminate in a bow. The sleeves have a small plain piece at the top, and very deep flounce left quite open, the corners rounded; this flounce is trimmed with a muslin frill headed by a ruche; the plain piece is trimmed with a rûche and has two bows of ribbon, the ends of which descend to the frill of the sleeve. These ruches made in pink ribbon, give a more dressy appearance to the Canezou. Cap of Brussels net, with very long lace lappet laid plain across the head, the ends left floating at the back; at each side rosettes of pink ribbon. This Canezou is from MME COLAS. PROMENADE COSTUME. Fig. 2nd.-Dress à deux jupes of light purple silk; the skirts are both trimmed èn quilles by alternate flounces of black and purple silk, the edges stamped. Plain high body with five points, the points edged by a ruche of black silk; the fronts are crossed by three ruches, two of black and one of purple silk. The wide open sleeve is lined with white silk, and has six ruches, four black and two purple. Full bishop sleeves of white muslin, with deep worked cuff. Bonnet of pink silk and paille de riz; cap of fulled tulle with bows of pink ribbon and broad pink strings: this dress is from MME. CONTANT. PROMENADE COSTUME. Fig. 3rd.-Dress of light brown moire antique. Mantelet à châle of black glacée ; it is pointed both at the back and front, and has a puff taken out on each shoulder to make it sit to the neck: to the bottom edge is sewn a deep flounce trimmed with rows of narrow velvet, finished by a narrow edging; falling over this flounce is a trimming à la Greque; this as well as the bottom of mantle is trimmed with velvet and edging: the velvet may be replaced by rich passementeries.
