Our Lord sent His disciples as Mis

sionaries.

8th Sunday. And He ordained twelve, that they should be with Him, and that He might send them forth to preach. Mark iii. 14.

And He called unto Him the twelve, and began to send them forth by two and two; and they went out, and preached that men should repent. Mark vi. 7, 12.

After these things, the Lord appointed other seventy also, and sent them two and two before His face, into every city and place whither He Himself would come. Luke x. 1.

What gifts, what miracles he gave,
And power to heal, and power to save,
Furnish'd their tongues with wondrous words
Instead of shields, and spears, and swords.
Thus armed, he sent the champions forth,
From east to west, from south to north:
Go, and assert your Saviour's cause;
Go, spread the mystery of his cross.

Necessity for Missionary work.

9th Sunday. Therefore, said He unto them, the harvest truly is great, but the labourers are few; pray ye, therefore, the Lord of the harvest, that He would send forth labourers into His harvest. Luke x. 12.

And a vision appeared to Paul in the night: there stood a man of Macedonia, and prayed him, saying, Come over into Macedonia, and help us. Acts xvi. 9.

How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher? and how shall they preach except they be sent? Rom. x. 14, 15.

Pour out Thy Holy Spirit, Lord,
To clothe with power Thy quick'ning word,
Till saints a glorious harvest rise,

And fill the garner of the skies.

E'en now the hallowed scenes appear,
E'en now unfolds the promised year:
Lo! distant shores Thy heralds trace,
And swell the tidings of Thy grace.

God qualifies for it.

10th Sunday. And Moses said unto the Lord, O my Lord, I am not eloquent; and the Lord said unto him, Who hath made man's mouth? have not I the Lord? Now, therefore, go, and I will be with thy mouth, and teach thee what thou shalt say. Exodus iv. 10, 12.

The Lord said unto me, Say not I am a child, for thou shalt go to all that I shall send thee; and whatsoever I command thee thou shalt speak. Be not afraid of their faces, for I am with thee. Jer. i. 7, 8.

I will give you a mouth and wisdom which all your adversaries shall not be able to gainsay nor resist. Luke xxi.15.

Though to speak thou art not able,
Always pray and never rest;
Prayer's a weapon for the feeble,-
Weakest souls can wield it best.

When beset with various evils
Wield the Spirit's two-edged sword:
It prevails o'er men and devils;
They shall fall before the word.

11th Sunday. How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him that bringeth good tidings, that publisheth peace; that bringeth good tidings of good, that publisheth salvation; that saith unto Zion, Thy God reigneth. Isaiah lii. 7.

Behold upon the mountains the feet of him that bringeth good tidings. Nahum i. 15.

How beauteous are their feet,
Who stand on Zion's hill,

Who bring salvation on their tongues,
And words of peace reveal!

How blessed are our ears

That hear the joyful sound—
Which kings and prophets wished to hear,
And sought, but never found.

Ministers should be ready to engage in it.

12th Sunday. I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Then said I, Here am I, send me. Isa. vi. 8.

Preach the word, be instant in season and out of season. 2 Tim. iv. 2.
