I vanquish'd them with ease. 9 Therefore my life's remaining years, 13 When all united press'd me hard, Which God to me shall lend, In hopes to make me fall, Will I in praises to his name, The Lord vouchsaf'd to take my part, And in his service spend. And save me from them all. 10, 11 In God I trusted, and of him 14 The honour of my strange escape In greatest straits did boast; To him alone belongs ; For in my fight all hopes of aid He is my Saviour and my strength, From faithless men were lost. Of thy just will intent. • Thou strictly hast enjoin'd us, Lord, 21 Thy sharp rebuke shall crush the proud, To learn thy sacred will; Whom still thy curse pursues ; And all our diligence employ Since they to walk in thy right ways Thy statutes to fulfil. Presumptuously refuse. 3 O then that thy most holy will 22 But far from me do thou, O Lord, Might o'er my ways preside, Contempt and shame remove ; And I the course of all my life For I thy sacred laws affect By thy direction guide! With undissembled love. 6 Then with assurance should I walk, 23 Though princes oft, in council met, From all confusion free; Against thy servant spake; Convinc'd, with joy, that all my ways Yet I thy statutes to observe With thy commands agree. My constant business make. 7 My upright heart shall my glad mouth 24 For thy commands have always been With cheerful praises fill; My comfort and delight; To guide my steps aright. 8 So to thy sacred laws shall I DALETH. 25 My soul, oppress'd with deadly care, Nor cast me quite away. Close to the dust does cleave; Revive me, Lord, and let me now Thy promis'd aid receive. 9 How shall the young preserve their ways, 26 To thee I still declar'd my ways, From all pollution free? And thou inclin'st thine ear; By making still their course of life O teach me then my future life With thy commands agree. By thy just laws to steer. 10 With hearty zeal for thee I seek, 27 If thou wilt make me know thy laws, To thee for succour pray ; And by their guidance walk, O suffer not my careless steps The wondrous works which thou hast done From thy right paths to stray. Shall be my constant talk. 11 Safe in my heart, and closely hid, 28 But see, my soul within me sinks, Thy word, my treasure lies; Press'd down with weighty care; To succour me with timely aid, Do thou, according to thy word, When sinful thoughts arise. My wasted strength repair. 12 Secur'd by that, my grateful soul 29 Far, far from me be all false ways Shall ever bless thy name; And lying arts remov'd; O teach me then by thy just laws But kindly grant I still may keep My future life to frame. The path by thee approv'd. 13 My lips, unlock'd by pious zeal, 30 Thy faithful ways, thou God of truth, To others have declar'd My happy choice I've made; How well the judgments of thy mouth Thy judgments, as my rule of life, Deserve our best regard. Before me always laid. 14 Whilst in the way of thy commands 31 My care has been to make my life More solid joy I found, Vith thy commands agree; Than had I been with vast increase O then preserve thy servant, Lord, Of envy'd riches crown'd. From shame and ruin free. Shall I with pleasure run, Successfully go on. HE. Thy righteous paths display; And I from them, through all my life, Will never go astray. 17 Be gracious to thy servant, Lord, 34 If thou true wisdom from above Do thou my life defend, Wilt graciously impart, That I, according to thy word, To keep thy perfect laws I will My future time may spend. Devote ny zealous heart. 18 Enlighten both my eyes and mind, 35 Direct me in the sacred ways That so I may discern To which thy precepts lead; The wondrous works which they behold, Because my chief delight has been Who thy just precepts learn. To guide my steps aright. 39 The foul disgrace I justly fear, 56 That peace of mind, which has my soul In mercy, Lord, remove; In deep distress sustain'd, For all the judgments thou ordain'st By strict obedience to thy will Are full of grace and love. I happily obtain'd. 40 Thou know'st how after thy commands CHETH. 57 O Lord, my God, my portion thou And promis'd succour grant. And sure possession art; Thy words I steadfastly resolve To treasure in my heart. 41 Thy constant blessing, Lord, bestow, 58 With all the strength of warm desire To cheer my drooping heart; I did thy grace implore; To me, according to thy word, Disclose, according to thy word, Thy saving health impart. Thy mercy's boundless store. 42 So shall I, when my foes upbraid. 59 With due reflection and strict care This ready answer make; On all my ways I thought; * In God I trust, who never will And so, reclaim'd to thy just paths, “ His faithful promise break.” My wand'ring steps I brought. Resolv'd, without delay, From thy commandments stray. 44 So I to keep thy righteous laws 61 Though num'rous troops of sinful men Will all my study bend; To rob me have combin'd, From age to age my time to come Yet I thy pure and righteous laws In their observance spend. Entire obedience pay. 85 The proud have digg'd a pit for me, 102 I have not from thy judgments stray'd, That have no other foes, By vain desires misled; But such as are averse to thee, For, Lord, thou hast instructed me And thy just laws oppose. Thy righteous paths to tread. 86 With sacred truth's eternal laws 103 How sweet are all thy words to me! All thy commands agree; O what divine repast !
