In Council of Safety, September 30th, 1776.

Mr. Nesbitt was directed to pay Mr. Robert Bridges £648 4 6, for 108 Tents left at Camp, in New Jersey.

Mr. Nesbitt, to pay Mr. John Moore £43 12 6, for 9 Riffles bought for the defence of the Frontiers of Westmoreland County, to be charged to Mr. Moore.

An order was drawn on Mr. Robert Towers, in fav'r of Mr. John Moore, for 4000 Flints, for the Service of Westmoreland County, taking his receipt.

Mr. Nesbitt, to pay Geo. Tiddeman £28 10 4, for Plank, &ca., deliver'd Mr. Benja. Loxley, for making Gun Carriages.

Mr. Michael Swoope, who was appointed a Member of this Council for York County, having accepted of a Commisson in the Flying Camp, the Convention, therefore, made choice of Col. Jos. Donaldson instead of Mr. Swope, and Col. Donaldson appearing, took and subscribed the Qualification directed by Convention.

Mr. Nesbitt was directed to pay Johnston Elliott £3 15 0, for a Gun delivered Mr. Towers.

Congress having Resolved that they will provide for persons in their service who shall be so disabled as to be incapable of serving on board their fleet or in the Army, & a Certain Nicholas Curry, a seaman late belonging to the Bull-Dog arm'd Boat, belonging to this State, having been by aceident disabled from ever performing his duty, the Council do therefore Resolve the said Nicholas Curry be allowed half pay from the time of his discharge untill further provision is made for persons in like situations.

Mr. Nesbitt was directed to pay Thomas Webber £22 15 0, for 16 Cords Wood delivered at Fort Island.

Col. Wm. Clark Deposited a Receipt from Lieut. Col. Henry Slagle, one of the Commissioners appointed by Convention to fix the Flying Camp, for Thirty thousand Dollars, which sum he received from Michael Hillegas, Esq'r, it being for the purpose of paying the bounty ordered by Convention, for the Flying Camp.

An order was drawn on Mr. Nesbitt, in favour Wm. Clarke, James Potter, & John Morris, Jun'r, for £187 10 0, and charge the same to their Account, it being for the purpose of paying their expences to Ticonderoga.

Mr. Nesbitt was directed to pay Col. Wm. Clark £5 0 0, for 10 days' Chair Hire, to carry 30,000 Dollars to Camp.

Mr. Nesbitt was directed to pay Wm. Bitner £19 16 4, for Repairing Arms.

Resolved, That John Maxwell Nesbitt, Esq'r, Treasurer of this Board, apply to the President of the Congress for an order in his favour, for 100,000 Dollars, granted by Congress for the use of this State.

Resolved, That Mr. Lewis Nicola be continued in the Office of Barrack Master, untill further orders.

Drawn an order on the Treasurer, in favour of Edward Bartholomew, for twenty-one Pounds, by way of Commissions for laying out £2100 in the service of the Militia.

berland County, certified by the Chairman of the Committee of Inspection of Cumberland County, passed in Council.

Another Account of fifty Pounds Seven Shillings & seven pence, certified by the Committee of Inspection of Cumberland County, Nineteen Pounds, to be charged to Col. Callender, for Six Guns, three Pounds to Col. Wilson, for one Gun, & one to Col. Montgomery, four Pounds, the remainder for repairing Guns to be charged to the State, passed.

Resolved, That a return of the Arms belonging to the State be ordered to be laid before the Council, and that they be delivered out to the Associators in proportion, and that the Col's of the several Battalions be informed thereof; and that the Associators who have the Arms belonging to the State be allowed to retain them.

A Draft for two hundred Pounds, in favour of Mr. Arthur Donaldson, for the floating Battery No. 2.

Resolved, That Col. John Bull be appointed general Superintendent of the Works to be carried on at Billingsport. Adjourned to 3 O'clock.

Resolved, That Mr. Peter Withington be appointed a Captain in Col. Cook's Battalion, his rank to be settled hereafter.

Samuel Royal received a Captain's Commission in the 2d Battalion of Militia belonging to Cumberland County, commanded by Col. Alison; & George Wallace the Commission of first Lieutenant in said Company, signed by the President.

Jacob Meyers' Account of fifteen Pounds twelve shillings & four pence half-penny, for Smith's Work, passed.

Resolved, That this Board will, on Saturday next, appoint twelve recruiting Sergeants, to raise the more expeditiously the quota of men to be furnished by this State to the Continent, agreeable to a late resolve of Congress.

Ordered, That the above Resolve be published; that persons willing to engage in that service, who can be well recommended, may send in their applications.

Resolved, That Thomas Strawbridge, Samuel Cunningham, & John Fleming & William Evans, be appointed to procure Blankets, Stockings & Woolen Clothes, for the use of this State.

That Two hundred Dollars be put into their Hands for the foregoing purpose.

An order was drawn on Mr. Nesbit for 200 Dollars, in favour of the above Gentlemen, and delivered to John Flemming.

An order to James McCanless, a Captain in Col. Wm. Smith's Battalion, York County, was drawn, directing him to hire a Waggon to carry some sick, belonging to his Company, to their homes; and that the Council would pay all reasonable Expences attending the

same.

Pass'd an order in favour Peter Lukens, for £7 14; ordered to be charged to Colonel T. Potts.

An order was drawn upon the Treasurer for five Hundred Pounds, in favour of Samuel Morris, Esq.

An order was drawn in favour of John Mitchell, Esq., for Joseph Ferree, for forty Bushells of Salt.

An order of Congress on their Treasurer, Michael Hillegas, Esq., for one hundred thousand Dollars, in favour of this Common Wealth,

was directed in Council to be passed to the Credit of the same, by said Michael Hillegas.

An order on Michael Hillegas, Esq., in favour of John M. Nesbit, Esq., for thirty thousand Dollars, passed the Council.

An account in favour of Jeremiah Baker, for One hundred & thirty-nine Pounds, twelve shillings & Eleven pence, for Wood for the Barracks, certified by Lewis Nicholeau, passed.
