1 THAT man is bless'd who stands in 'awe Of God, and loves his sacred law; And with successive honors crown'd. Shines brightest in affliction's night; As well as just to all mankind. 3 His lib'ral favors he extends, To some he gives, to others lends; He saves by prudence in affairs. Unmoved shall he maintain his ground; 1 YE saints and servants of the LORD, His sacred Name for ever bless : Due praise to his great Name address. 2 God through the world extends his sway; The regions of eternal day But shadows of his glory are: Let no created power compare. I never will despair; To him address my prayer. Which God to me shall lend, And in his service, spend. Did boast in greatest fear; All men are insincere. For all his goodness make? The cup of blessing take. Has endless honor won ; Amazing works has done. 7 God will not suffer me to fall, But still prolongs my days; I may advance his praise. 'Till quite of hopes bereaved, His mercy from the gates of death My fainting life reprieved. To which the just repair, My great deliv'rer there. Who still does gracious prove; Be endless as his love. 1 HOW bless'd are they who always keep The pure and perfect way; Of God's commandments stray! Have still obedient been; His favor sought to win! To shun each wicked deed; With constant care proceed. To learn thy sacred will ; And all our diligence employ Thy statutes to fulfil. 5 O then that thy most holy will Might o'er my ways preside; And I the course of all my life By thy direction guide! From all confusion free; With thy commands agree. With cheerful praises fill, When, by thy righteous judgments taught, I shall have learn'd thy will. |
