CHAPTER I.

BLANCHE'S hour is come-that hour of dread and darkness to the woman most happily situated-supported by a tender mother -an anxious husband-every solace and alleviation within her reach-joyful anticipations to soften every pang, to strengthen the soul in the hour of agony.
