the cradle out to the Nest, all covered over; and, before I opened it, told the children I had two new nestlings who were always to be in the nursery, and asked who would take care of them. Many hands were put up; and, when the cover was taken off, there were such ohs! and ahs! and other exclamations of delight.

The cradle is to stand near the nursery fire; and it will afford much occupation and pleasure to little girls sitting there; and, when the dolls are worn out, the cradle will last for another pair.

We have had many other nice gifts. It would be impossible to mention them all; but Jesus knows all about them. He notices how the gifts are given, and why; and if He sees any loving hearts and hands working for the poor little children, because of love to Him, He is as pleased as He was with that poor woman who anointed His feet with precious ointment. "She hath done what she could," He said.

I think the children who work for the Birds' Nest get quite as much

blessing as the children in the Nest; for Jesus says, "It is more blessed to give than to receive;" or, as a dear little friend of mine translates it, "It is better to give than to get." Jesus is the medium of blessing. I love to

think of His care that all should be blessed; that to Him little children's hearts are lifted many times a day, some for their own needs, some for the needs of others; that the Birds' Nest brings many little messengers to the throne of grace, just to tell Jesus about it, and He

"Heareth all they ask for,

All the night and day."

And He answers, too, so graciously, so abundantly. More than we ask He gives. Dear children, will you let this be a year of great prayer? Will you ask not only that food and clothes, and all such things, may be supplied, but for greater blessings still? We shall not be satisfied unless every child coming into the Nest gets better blessings than these. We want each child to become one of the Saviour's own, washed in His precious blood, and made

to follow in His blessed footsteps. Ask every day that the Holy Spirit may be poured out abundantly, for Jesus' sake.

But some will read this little book who have not begun to work for Jesus. You have often thought you would LIKE to do something. Well, just take up some work for the Nest-heart-work in praying, or hand-work in sewing, or head-work in collecting. Some of those who began to do this work for Jesus on earth have met in glory with some of the rescued ones. Perhaps they were the first to welcome them. What a joy that would be. May it be yours.

THE IMAGE IN TOWNSEND
STREET.

No. Twenty-seven, Townsend-street,
is a wonderful house. It is the
largest house in the street. It is the
cleanest house in the street. If you
were to walk down the street you
would know it by these marks, and
by two others-1st, The steps are
always covered by little ragged chil-
dren, who choose it for a place to
play, because they know they won't
get a scolding for being there; 2d,
All across the house, in very large
plain letters, is painted the text,
SEARCH THE SCRIPTURES.
(John v. 39.)

In this house live all the young Scripture-readers, and a kind lady who takes care of them and makes their home happy. At the back of the house is a very large square building, which is used for many different missionary purposes. On
