REPORT OF STATE BOARD OF VISITORS.

To His Excellency Leon Abbett, Governor of the State of New Jersey:

HONORED SIR-The Board of Visitors to the State Agricultural College herewith present their twenty-eighth annual report upon the present condition and course of instruction in that institution, as required in the act creating the Board, entitled "An act appropriating scrip for lands granted to the State of New Jersey by the act of Congress approved July 2d, 1862," and approved April 4th, 1864.

The members of the Board have attended the semi-annual examinations of the students pursuing either the regular or special courses of instruction given in the Scientific Department of Rutgers College; have visited the laboratories and collections of the institution, and the farm provided for the Agricultural College by the Trustees of Rutgers College, and report upon each of these.

The first meeting of the Board, in this year, was held at the College, June 17th, 1892, and the following examinations were attended :

Juniors, in History of Civilization, by Professor Stevenson.
Juniors, in Optics, by Professor Van Dyck.

Juniors, in Integral Calculus, by Professor Bowser.

Sophomores, in Analytic Geometry, by Professor Titsworth.
Sophomores, in Qualitative Analysis, by Professor Speyers.
Freshmen, in French, by Professor Bevier.

Freshmen, in English Literature, by Professor Hart.

In the afternoon the members of the Board attended the public exercises of the reading of theses by the members of the graduating class, when the following programme was carried out:

At the close of these exercises, the members of the Board severally gave the result of their observations, after which it was voted that the Trustees of Rutgers College were faithfully and liberally fulfilling their contract with the State.

The second meeting was held at the College on the 18th of December, at which time the following classes and subjects of study were attended, viz.:

Seniors, in Political Economy, by the President.

Seniors, in Biology, by Professor Nelson.

Juniors, in English Constitution, by Professor Stevenson.

Juniors, in Mechanics and Optics, by Professor Van Dyck.

Juniors, in Analytic Geometry and Differential Calculus, by Professor Bowser.

Sophomores, in Descriptive Geometry, by Professor Titsworth.

Sophomores, in Experimental Chemistry, by Mr. Mitchell.

Freshmen, in Civics, by the President.

Freshmen, in Rhetoric, by Professor Doolittle.

There were also the usual military drills by all of the Scientific students, under the command of Lieutenant Brereton.
