To the memory of Edward Parker, Esq.

who died 22d day of Dec. 1794, in the 64th year of his age.

Barbara, second daughter of Sir Wm. Flemming, of Rydall, in the county of Westmoreland, Baronet, as a testimony of affection for a departed husband, and from a grateful sense of the regard she experienced from him in his life, and at his death, erected this monument.

John Parker, Esq. only son of E. Parker, of Browsholme, Esq. who married Beatrix Lister, daughter of T. Lister, of Gisburne Park, in the county of York, Esq. Died the 25th of May 1797, aged 42.

He lived respected, and died regretted by a very numerous and respectable acquaintance. "Laudari à laudatis et principibus placuisse viris, haud ultima laus est."

T. L. Parker, of Browsholme, out of filial affection and dutiful regard, erects this monument.

Mrs. Barbara Parker, wife of the late Edward Parker,

of Browsholme Hall, in the county of York, Esq. and second daughter of Sir William Fleming, Bart. of Rydall Hall, in the county of Westmorland, who departed this life on the 21st of April 1812, in the eighty-fourth year of her age.

The picture of the "Good Shepherd," over the altar table, was painted A. D. 1807, by James Northcote, Esq. R. A. and presented to the church by T. L. Parker, Esq. A. D. 1808-as, also, the com

munion plate and painted glass in the east window.

The following inscription is taken from Mr. Browne Willis's Account of Lincoln Cathedral.

D. 1613. Viri Literarum ac Pietatis Studio celeberrimi, Orphani parentis, mariti Viduæ, pauperum nutricii, bonorum omnium hospitalissimi, Sacerdotum speculi, ad omne opus bonum paratissimi; inopum votis olim cumulati, nunc lacrimis deflendi, Officio et vitâ simul functi 29 Augusti, A. D. 1629 Ætatis suæ 71. Consecrat exiguo hoc ære, ad miraculum sit monumentum ære perennius, Alicia Parker, Marito charissimo Vidua, Conjux Moestissima.

At Waddington is an hospital, founded in the year 1701, by Robert Parker, second son of Edward Parker, of Browsholme, Esq. for ten widows. The deed of endowment sets forth "that the said Robert Parker, to the honour and glory of God, hath erected an hospital, with an oratory for divine worship, for the convenient reception of ten poor widows. The trustees to choose one sober and orthodox person to read daily morning and evening prayers. Also to take care that the chapel be never hereafter converted into a school, or to any other use but to the worship and service of God; and to meet yearly on the 13th of June, the founder's birth-day, to examine the accounts, &c. and provide an honest, able, and learned clerk, in holy orders, to preach a sermon in the chapel." In 1719 the rental of the estates belonging to this hospital was 667. 8s.-in 1799 it amounted to £254. Instead of ten there are now fifteen widows. The pious founder died early in life, and unmarried, and was interred in the churchyard of Waddington. His monument is a plain stone without any inscription, only his coat of arms on the side.
