Senate Bill No. 78, entitled "An act to repeal section six of an act entitled "An act to establish in this State boards of health and a bureau of vital statistics, and to define their respective powers and duties,"

Was taken up and read a third time.

Upon the question, "Shall this Senate bill pass?" it was decided as follows:

In the affirmative were

Messrs. Allen, Case, Conrad, Fithian, Haines, Hammond, Mackay, Martens, McCran (President), McGlennon, Richards, Runyon, Stevens, Sturgess-14.

In the negative—None.

The Secretary was directed by the President to carry said bill to the House of Assembly and inform that body that the Senate has passed the same, and requests its concurrence therein.

Senate Bill No. 53, entitled "A supplement to an act entitled 'An act for the incorporation of cities and providing for their officers, government and powers,' approved March twenty-fourth, one thousand eight hundred and ninety-nine,"

Was taken up and read a third time.

Upon the question, "Shall this Senate bill pass?" it was decided as follows:

Mr. Richards offered the following resolution, which was read and adopted:

Resolved, That the privilege of the floor be extended to the Honorable Lawrence Y. Sherman, of Illinois, and Joseph S. Frelinghuysen, of New Jersey, members of the United States Senate.

On Wednesday, January 23d, 1918, at 12:40 P. M., the Senate, on motion of Mr. Richards, went into the Committee of the Whole to receive the Honorable Lawrence Y. Sherman, a member of the United States Senate from Illinois, and the Honorable Joseph S. Frelinghuysen, a member of the United States Senate from New Jersey.

The distinguished visitors were presented to the committee by Mr. Richards, and addresses were made by each.

On motion of Mr. Richards, the committee then arose.

Senate Bill No. 54, entitled "A further supplement to an act concerning the settlement and collection of arrearages of unpaid taxes, assessments and water rates or water rents in towns, townships, boroughs and other municipalities except cities of this State, and imposing and levying a tax, assessment and lien in lieu and instead of such arrearages and to enforce the payment thereof, and to provide for the sale of lands subject to future taxation and assessment," approved May eighteenth, one thousand eight hundred and ninety-eight,"

Was taken up and read a third time.

Upon the question, "Shall this Senate bill pass?" it was decided as follows:

Senate Bill No. 56, entitled "A supplement to an act entitled 'An act concerning the settlement and collection of arrearages of unpaid taxes, assessments and water rates or water rents in towns, townships, boroughs and other municipalities except cities of this State, and imposing and levying a tax, assessment and lien in lieu and instead of such arrearages and to enforce the pyment thereof, and to provide for the sale of lands subject to future taxation and assessment,' approved May eighteenth, one thousand eight hundred and ninety-eight,"
