2. And be it enacted, That the inhabitants of the town- Corporate name ship of Boiling Springs shall be and are hereby constituted and rights. a body politic and corporate in law, and shall be styled and known by the name of " the inhabitants of the township of Boiling Springs, in the county of Bergen," and shall be entitled to all the rights, powers, authority, privileges and advantages, and subject to the same regulations, government and liabilities as the inhabitants of the other townships in said county of Bergen are or may be entitled or subject to by the laws of this state.

3. And be it enacted, That the inhabitants of the town- When and where ship of Boiling Springs aforesaid shall hold their first ing to be held. town meeting at engine-house number three, in said township of Boiling Springs, within sixty-days after the approval of this act, and the officers elected at said town meeting shall hold their respective offices until the next annual town meeting.

4. And be it enacted, That the township committees of Township comthe townships of Boiling Springs and Union shall meet to allot and on the first Monday next after the said first town meeting, divide property. at engine-house number one, Valley Brook, in the township of Union, in the county aforesaid, at ten o'clock in the forenoon of that day, and then and there proceed, by writing, signed by a majority of those present, to allot and divide, between the said townships, all property, real and personal, moneys on hand, due or to become due, in proportion to the taxable property and ratables as taxed by the assessor of the said township of Union, within the limits of the respective townships of Boiling Springs and Union, at the last assessment, and may adjourn said meeting, from time to time, as a majority of those present may deem proper; and the inhabitants of the respective townships shall be liable to pay their just proportion of the debts, if any there should be; and a majority of the persons comprising the township committees of said two townships, shall constitute a quorum, and may proceed to make said division, and the decision of a majority of those present shall be final and conclusive; provided, that Proviso. it shall and may be lawful to adjourn the above meeting to such time and place, within either of said townships, as a majority of those assembled as aforesaid may think

proper.

5. And be it enacted, That Louis Lane shall be and is hereby constituted the clerk of the township of Boiling Springs until after the first town meeting of said township, and it shall be his duty as such clerk to set up the notices required by law for holding said town meeting, together with all the several duties of town clerk.

6. And be it enacted, That Jacob H. Vreeland shall be and is hereby constituted the judge of election, and Isaac J. Van Winkle and Frank C. Tarbox, inspectors of election of the township of Boiling Springs until after the first town meeting of said township, and it shall be their duty to act as judge and inspectors of election respectively, as required by law, with all the usual duties of such offices.

7. And be it enacted, That nothing in this act contained shall be construed so as to interfere with or impair the commissions of justices of the peace, or of commissioners of deeds, until they shall expire by limitation, or so as to impair the rights of the said township of Boiling Springs in and to its just and legal proportion of the surplus revenue of the general government and the interest thereon.

8. And be it enacted, That the said township of Boiling Springs shall form a part of the second assembly district of the county of Bergen, as said assembly district is now constituted.

9. And be it enacted, That this act shall take effect immediately.

CHAPTER CCLXXX.

A Further Supplement to the act entitled "An act to establish district courts in the city of Newark," passed March fourth, one thousand eight hundred and seventy-three.

1. BE IT ENACTED by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey, That section twenty-three of said act, which reads as follows:

"23. And be it enacted, That the judges of said courts Section amended shall each receive, in lieu of all fees whatever, an annual salary of three thousand dollars, to be paid by the mayor and common council of the city of Newark, out of the treasury of said city, in quarterly installments, which shall be computed from the day of appointment of said judge; and the clerks of said courts shall each receive an annual salary of one thousand dollars, to be paid in like manner, and in addition thereto shall receive five per centum of all fees paid into said courts by the suitors therein; provided, that such additional compensation do not exceed the sum of four hundred dollars per annum," be amended so as to read as follows:

And be it enacted, That the judges of said courts Salary of judges shall each receive, in lieu of all fees whatever, an annual district courts. salary of three thousand dollars, to be paid by the mayor and common council of the city of Newark, out of the treasury of said city, in quarterly installments, which shall be computed from the day of appointment of said judge; and the clerks of said courts shall each receive an annual salary of fifteen hundred dollars.

2. And be it enacted, That this act shall take effect immediately.
