"The Lord's mercies are new every morning."

HE morning bright,

With rosy light,

Has waked me from my sleep;

Father, I own

Thy love alone

Thy little one doth keep.

All through the day,

I humbly pray,

Be Thou my Guard and Guide;

My sins forgive,

And let me live,

Blest Jesus, near Thy side.

P.M.

Oh! make Thy rest
Within my breast,
Great Spirit of all grace!
Make me like Thee,

Then shall I be

Prepared to see Thy face.

"Day unto day uttereth speech."

WAKE, my soul, and with the sun
Thy daily stage of duty run;
Shake off dull sloth, and early rise,
To pay thy morning sacrifice.

Wake, and lift up thyself, my heart,
And with the angels bear thy part,
Who all night long unwearied sing
High praises to the Eternal King.

Glory to Thee, who safe hast kept,
And hast refreshed me whilst I slept;
Grant, Lord, when I from death shall wake,
I may of endless light partake.

Lord, I my vows to Thee renew;

Disperse my sins as morning dew,

Guard my first springs of thought and will,
And with Thyself my spirit fill.

L.M.

Direct, control, suggest, this day,
All I design, or do, or say;

That all my powers, with true delight,
To Thy sole glory may unite.

"The greater light to rule the day."

Y God, who makes the sun to know
His proper hour to rise;

And, to give light to all below,

Doth send him round the skies.

When, from the chambers of the east,
His morning race begins,

He never tires, nor stops to rest,

But round the earth he shines.

So, like the sun, would I fulfil
The business of the day;
Begin my work betimes, and still
March on my heavenly way.

Give me, O Lord! Thy early grace,
Nor let my soul complain,

That the young morning of my days

Has all been spent in vain.

"I awaked, for the Lord sustained me."

EW every morning is the love

Our wakening and uprising prove; Through sleep and darkness safely brought, Restored to life, and power, and thought.

New mercies, each returning day,
Hover around us while we pray;

New perils past, new sins forgiven,

New thoughts of God, new hopes of heaven.

If, on our daily course, our mind
Be set to hallow all we find,

New treasures still, of countless price,
God will provide for sacrifice.

The trivial round, the common task,
Will furnish all we ought to ask;
Room to deny ourselves; a road
To bring us, daily, nearer God.

Only, O Lord! in Thy dear love
Fit us for perfect rest above;
And help us, this, and every day,
To live more nearly as we pray.

L.M.

Evening.
