VI.

AVIOUR! teach me, day by day,
Love's sweet lesson to obey;

Sweeter lesson cannot be,—
Loving Him who first loved me.

With a childlike heart of love,
At Thy bidding may I move :
Prompt to serve and follow Thee,
Loving Him who first loved me.

Teach me all Thy steps to trace,
Strong to follow in Thy grace;
Learning how to love from Thee,
Loving Him who first loved me.

Love in loving finds employ,
In obedience all her joy ;
Ever new that joy will be,
Loving Him who first loved me.

Thus may I rejoice to show,
That I feel the love I owe;

Singing, till Thy face I see,

Of His love who first loved me.

Our Father, which art in Heaven, &c.

VII.

EAVENLY Father! I cannot see Thee, but I know Thou seest me. Thine eye never sleeps, and the both alike to Thee.

darkness and light are Through the night Thou hast watched by my bed, and now Thou hast prepared new mercies for me with the dawning day.

The beautiful world is Thy handiwork. The bright sunlight is Thy gift. Thou sendest refreshing rain to water the earth, and causest the gentle dew to fall to give bloom and fragrance to the flowers. Everything around me is the object of Thy care. Not a sparrow falleth to the ground without Thy knowledge.

Help me, O my Father! to see Thee in Thy works, and in Thy Providence. But help me, too, to see Thee in Thy Grace. All Thy works praise Thee: but my heart needs Thy Grace to teach me how to thank Thee aright.

Alas! I often forget Thy mercies, and often sin against Thee. I ought to praise Thee not only with my lips, but in my life. I ought to be obedient, and gentle, and tenderhearted, and full of love to God and man, always trying to make others happy, and being happy in seeing others so. I ought to speak no hasty words, to indulge no sinful thoughts.

But Thou canst

Alas! I am not what I ought to be. make me what I ought to be. Thy Holy Spirit can make

my heart a new heart, and enable me to live a new life. Oh let Thy Spirit like the rain and the dew descend, and let the Sun of Righteousness shine upon my heart, till the flowers of Grace and the fruits of the Spirit spring up in my life and show forth Thy praise.

Keep me this day from sinning: defend me with Thy Heavenly Grace: and grant that I may daily increase in Thy Holy Spirit more and more, until I come to Thy everlasting Kingdom.

Give us, in our home to-day, every good and perfect gift: for Jesus Christ's sake, our Lord and Saviour.

Our Father, which art in Heaven, &c.

Amen.

VIII.

AVIOUR! while my heart is tender,
I would yield that heart to Thee;
All my powers to Thee surrender,
Thine, and only Thine, to be.
Take me now, Lord Jesus! take me;
Let my youthful heart be Thine:
Thy devoted servant make me,
Fill my soul with love Divine.

Send me, Lord, where Thou wilt send me,
Only do Thou guide my way ;

May Thy Grace through life attend me,
Gladly then shall I obey.

Let me do Thy will, or bear it :

I would know no will but Thine:
Shouldst Thou take my life, or spare it,
I that life to Thee resign.

May this solemn dedication
Never once forgotten lie;
Let it know no revocation,

Published and confirmed on high.
Thine I am, O Lord, for ever,
To Thy service set apart:
Suffer me to leave Thee, never;

Seal Thine image on my heart.

Our Father, which art in Heaven, &c.
