S VI. AVIOUR! teach me, day by day, Sweeter lesson cannot be,— With a childlike heart of love, Teach me all Thy steps to trace, Love in loving finds employ, Thus may I rejoice to show, Singing, till Thy face I see, Of His love who first loved me. Our Father, which art in Heaven, &c. VII. EAVENLY Father! I cannot see Thee, but I know Thou seest me. Thine eye never sleeps, and the both alike to Thee. darkness and light are Through the night Thou hast watched by my bed, and now Thou hast prepared new mercies for me with the dawning day. The beautiful world is Thy handiwork. The bright sunlight is Thy gift. Thou sendest refreshing rain to water the earth, and causest the gentle dew to fall to give bloom and fragrance to the flowers. Everything around me is the object of Thy care. Not a sparrow falleth to the ground without Thy knowledge. Help me, O my Father! to see Thee in Thy works, and in Thy Providence. But help me, too, to see Thee in Thy Grace. All Thy works praise Thee: but my heart needs Thy Grace to teach me how to thank Thee aright. Alas! I often forget Thy mercies, and often sin against Thee. I ought to praise Thee not only with my lips, but in my life. I ought to be obedient, and gentle, and tenderhearted, and full of love to God and man, always trying to make others happy, and being happy in seeing others so. I ought to speak no hasty words, to indulge no sinful thoughts. But Thou canst Alas! I am not what I ought to be. make me what I ought to be. Thy Holy Spirit can make my heart a new heart, and enable me to live a new life. Oh let Thy Spirit like the rain and the dew descend, and let the Sun of Righteousness shine upon my heart, till the flowers of Grace and the fruits of the Spirit spring up in my life and show forth Thy praise. Keep me this day from sinning: defend me with Thy Heavenly Grace: and grant that I may daily increase in Thy Holy Spirit more and more, until I come to Thy everlasting Kingdom. Give us, in our home to-day, every good and perfect gift: for Jesus Christ's sake, our Lord and Saviour. Our Father, which art in Heaven, &c. Amen. S VIII. AVIOUR! while my heart is tender, Send me, Lord, where Thou wilt send me, May Thy Grace through life attend me, Let me do Thy will, or bear it : I would know no will but Thine: May this solemn dedication Published and confirmed on high. Seal Thine image on my heart. Our Father, which art in Heaven, &c. |
