THE

FUTURE OF RUSSIA,

OR AN

ANSWER TO THE QUESTION,

HOW WILL THE

GREAT EASTERN STRUGGLE

FINALLY TERMINATE?

ANSWER GIVEN BY COMPARING SCRIPTURE WITH HISTORY, IN WHICH
IT IS CLEARLY SHOWN THAT RUSSIA IS THE SPECIAL SUBJECT
OF MANY OF THE PROPHECIES OF THE JEWISH SCRIP-
TURES, AND THAT HER FUTURE GENERAL HISTORY,
TOGETHER WITH THAT OF WESTERN EUROPE,

IS DEFINITELY FORETOLD.

The writer of the following pages has not appeared before the public as an
Author, for the purpose of displaying his literary

, qualifications, or his tact in fashionable scribbling. He is well aware that in these respects he will be set down, especially by the "elite world," as far behind the times. He is one of those, however, that believes that there may be extremes in literature as well as in everything else. There is a point in the refinement of language and manners which is useful to society, and pleasing to both God and man. There is another point, which many in this age aspire to, which is useful to nobody-pleasing to man only, and which God calls foolishness.

There is a class of readers, whose chief, and perhaps only object is, to rest the literary attainments of the author; uot to be instructed by the subject matter of the work. There is another class who read to be edified by the beauty of the language and the elegance of the style; not to be benefitted by the author's lessons. These two classes he cannot expect 10 please. Being an old man, and one which the present age would call unlearned, he cannot expect to win laurels from the literary world.

My object, therefore, in writing, is not to gratify vaini curiosity and pride, but to endeavor to disseminate useful information; 10 unveil and set forth truth in its true light and original character as revealed from Heaven. I write for the benefit of common sense folks, who value a plain Eaglish sentence, clothed with lessons of of useful instruction, more than the high-flown fluminery of the fashionable world. I write to dig up from the rubbish of ages some of the precious gems of truth which the wisdom of the world has long been engaged in covering up and concealing—" to speak comfortably to 1 Jerusalem and say unto her her warfare is accomplished, for she hath received from the Lord's hand double for all her sins”--to penetrate the dark

'oud and lift the veil that hides the future destiny of nations-and if I ever accomplish these objects, I have fulfilled my highest expectations.

I deem it proper to say to the public that the main positions of this work we established in my mind more than four years ago, and were made kr.om 2 to my neighbors and friends, and that a considerable portion of the substance of the work was written before the Russian Armies entered the

Principality. It has since, however, been re-copied and a few expressions He admitted in which it gives some part of the work the appearance of having

been lately written. I make these statements to show that my conclusions have not been drawn from the thus far ill-success of the Allied cause, but from the prophecies themselves.

THE AUTHOR.
