"How can ye believe, which receive honour one of another, and seek not the honour that cometh from God only?"-John v. 44.

the

"Oh that seeking honour one of another!- the world- the world world! this is the great enemy. The men of the world, the fear of the world, the love of the world, the things of the world-these are what influence men to put of the season, to say, 'A more convenient time will come, and then I will send for thee.' Oh how few dare to think for themselves! How easy to follow others to make another man's creed mine-to be beneath my father and my mother's shadow-to go where they have gone, and worship where they have worshipped; and after all to be with

out God, without Christ, and without hope in the world. Oh! when you come and stand before the Eternal Majesty, what will it be to you to have had honour of men, and sought not the honour that cometh of God only ?" "-EVANS.

"If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God."-Col. iii. 1.

"Let us seek to know Christ more, to have more spiritual and enlarged comprehensions of his glory, to drink deeper into his love, to imbibe more of his spirit and conform more closely to his example. -WINSLOW.

Most suitable is the prayer of Basil, Give me any cross that may bring me into subjection to thy cross, and save me in spite of myself."-BRIDGES.

"The grace of God is sufficient for his feeblest servants, when in their proper place, though in the midst of the worst examples, and struggling with the most powerful temptation."-SCOTT.

"Prove your own selves."-2 Cor. xiii. 5. ¿ "Be exhorted to deal impartially with your own souls. Look into your own state. Examine yourselves. Try whether Jesus Christ be formed in you. If your state be good, searching into it will give you the comfort of it. If your state be

bad, searching into it cannot make it worse, nay, it is the only way to make it better, for conversion begins with conviction."-HOPKINS.

"Pray."-Matt. xxvi. 41.

Begin and end the day with God; let prayer be your first work and your last work every day. Oh! Christian, lock up thy heart with prayer, and give God the key. Are you called by the name of Christ, and will not call upon the name of Christ? Take away spiritual breathings, and you take away spiritual living. We may pray always, and yet not be always at prayer. Christians can never want a praying time, if they do not want a praying frame. None can pray aright,
