DEATHS. semble in council in Paris next year, in order that the "Great Sanhedrim" may take place at the time of the Paris "Universal Exhibition." The meeting will be called upon especially to decide the followquestions::-"The prohibition of certain articles of food; the suppression of the polygamy which exists among the Jews in Algeria; and the recognition of female children as equally qualified to inherit in that country with males." Deaths. ABBOTT.-At Blunham, Beds., October 15th, Mrs. Jeremiah Abbott, in her 61st year. She had been a member of the Old Meeting several years, the ministry of the Gospel there having been the means of leading her to Christ. She was a very diligent attendant, on the means of grace, and much enjoyed the service of God. She suffered through several weeks previously to her death, but was able to sit in her chair to the last, and died in a moment, as she was about to go to bed. She said that a time of sickness was not the best to seek the Saviour, but felt thankful that while in health she had been led to seek mercy at the cross. Her pastor, Mr. W. Abbott, preached a funeral sermon from the words, "Good hope through grace.". BARBER. Died, on the 30th of October, in the 58th year of her age, in the full assurance of faith, Eliza Barber, the beloved wife of G. Barber, Esq., of Thorpe Hamlet, Norwich, greatly beloved by all who knew her. She was buried at the Rosary, by her pastor, C. H. Hosken, and 287 her death was improved on Lord's day evening, Nov. 18th, from almost her last words spoken to her pastor, "I know whom I have believed." We trust her bereaved brother will be graciously sustained. We hope to give some further account of our departed sister in the Herald. USHER. At Blunham, Beds., October 31st. in her 78th year, Sarah, the widow of the late Mr. W. B. Usher. She had been a member at the Old Meeting 54 years, being baptized in her 23rd year. During a heavy affliction in her 18th year she became impressed with her sinfulness, and was led to trust in the Saviour. Thus, in the bloom of life, influenced by his winning love, she gave her heart to Christ, and constrained by his love she actively served him through many years. For several years she suffered from great feebleness and blindness, but was much comforted by the love and promises of God. On the last evening of her life she seemed as well as she had been for weeks past, was cheerful and conversed freely with her minister on visiting her, and died early next morning while in sleep. The last years of her life shew the calm resting of her spirit on the Saviour, her patient enduring of suffering, and the hopeful waiting for the coming of the Lord. There was much of the gentleness of mercy throughout her affliction, and especially in her death. On Sunday evening, Nov. 11th, a large congregation assembled to testify their respect for the deceased, when her Pastor, Mr. Abbott, preached a funeral sermon from the words; "As for me, I will behold thy face in righteousness; I shall be satisfied, when I awake with thy likeness." their Principles 212 Have You been to the tory Reflections, &c.. 47 Why Weepest Thou 166 Exposition of the Shadow of Death 256 Footsteps of a Prodigal 190 MONTHLY RECORD OF PASSING EVENTS.
