The Minutes of the last Meeting were read and approved

A Petition of M Dykers to have an Error in his Assessment corrected was read and referred to the Committee on Assessments

A Petition of the Fulton Bank for relief from Tax Assessed on them was read and referred to Finance Committee

[155] A Petition of Samuel Boyd praying for a Water Grant in front of his property at Greenwich was read and referred to the Finance Committee

A Petition of David Evans to be relieved from a fine for a Chimney taking fire was read and referred to the Chief Engineer

A Petition of Daniel Cooledge to be appointed a Collector of

Assessments was read and referred to the Committee on Applications for Office

A Petition of the Executors of John Scudder (decd) late Proprietor of the American Museum for an extension of the Lease of said place was read and referred to the Finance Committee

A Petition of Residents and Proprietors of the Houses & Lots of land in Duane street between Broadway and Elm street praying to have the curb stone raised and that part of the Waters from the Park and Chamber street may pass down Reade street was read and referred to the Street Committee

A Remonstrance against removing the Ferry from Walnut street Slip was read and referred to the Ferry Committee

A Petition of a number of persons for a Well and Pump at the corner of Madison and Montgomery street 7th Ward was read and referred to the Alderman & Assistant of the 7th Ward

A Petition of Ezra Cleveland to have a fine paid by him for not having his Lamps lighted on his Hack refunded to him was read and referred to the Police Committee

A Memorial of the Elders & Deacons of the Reformed Pro. Dutch Church in the City of New York for the remission of a fine for interring the late Mrs Abeel in said burying ground was read and referred to the Finance Committee

A Remonstrance of a number of persons against paving the side walks in Bleecker street was read and referred to the Street Committee

A simular remonstrance against paving the side walks of Bleecker street was read and referred to the Street Committee

[158] A Remonstrance against paving the Side walks of Charlton street from McDougal to Washington street was read and referred to the Street Committee

A Petition of Townsend Cock and Joel Concklin for leave to assign their right to Wharf & Pier at Brooklyn was read and referred to the Finance Committee with powers

A Petition of John R Livingston for the opening of Ridge street was read and referred to the Street Committee

A Petition of James Hostin for a remission of a Tax on his personal estate was read and referred to the Committee on Assessments

A Petition was presented from N Bangs and I Emory stating that the building No 14 Crosby street is a public Institution of the Methodist Episcopal Church used for the publication of Religious Books and as such in their opinion not liable to taxation that the same has lately been assessed for a Tax and praying relief-which being read was referred to the Finance Committee

A Communication was received from the [159] Superintendant of the Alms House stating that further accommodations were required for Small Pox patients-which was referred to the Committee on Lands & Places with powers

The Watch Committee to whom was referred the Petitions of Nicholas Fish & Others for an increase of the Watch in the 11th Ward and of Theodorus Bailey for one Watchman at the Post Office presented the following Report

The Watch Committee to whom were referred the Petition of Nicholas Fish & others for an increase of the Watch in the Eleventh ward and of Theodorus Bailey for one Watchman at the Post Office Report

That they find not only those portions of the City requiring more Watchmen but that the posts in many other parts are so large as to render it impossible that they should be properly watched. It therefore becomes expedient in their opinion to divide them and create additional Posts as named in the annexed Resolution

The re-iterated complaints that Watchmen are not to be found when their services are wanted proceeds in the opinion of your Committee from their posts being much more extensive than Citizens
