Also for laying the side Walks in Duane Street between Broadway and Hudson Street and Isaac Kip James Bleecker and Cary Dunn were appointed Assessors Also for paving the side Walks in North Street between the Bowery and Orchard Street and Benjamin Prince John Targee and Abraham Dally were appointed Assessors. The City Inspector respectfully Reports the following Ordinances for Correcting Nuisances Viz [20] Alderman presented the following Resolved that the Vacant Lots fronting on Rutgers Bancker and Henry Streets be filled in and that the City Inspector carry the same into effect which was referred to the Counsel Alderman Reed presented a Resolution to repair Broadway at the junction of Art Street which was referred to the Road Committe The following Letter was received from Absolum Bull On the day preeceding our departure from Black Rock, Judge Porter of Niagara forwarded to us four barrels of Apples raised in his orchard some two or three hundred yards from the Falls; with a request that they might be shipped on board the Canal Boat "Niagara " and two of them be presented to the Corporation of Troy and the other Two to the Corporation of New York as specimens of the fruit of that Country Our Boat however, was already so nearly loaded as to prevent our taking but two of the barrels one of which we have in conformity to his request, delivered to the Corporation of Troy; and the other we now beg leave to present to you Very respectfully Your Obet Servant New York Nov. 8. 1825 Absalom Bull for the Passengers of the "Niagara " [21] Whereupon Resolved that the present be Accepted and that the Clerk return the thanks of the Board for the same The Recorder presented the following Report as Chairman of the Committe on the Celebration for the Completion of the Erie Canal The Commemoration by the City of New York of the completion of the Grand Erie Canal, which unites the waters of the Great lakes with the Atlantic Ocean The Committe of the Corporation of the City of New York, to whom it was referred to concert measures, to Commemorate this great event in a manner corresponding with its vast National importance with the feelings and wishes of their fellow citizens-and with the Honor of the City Respectfully Report, that the Celebration both by Land and Water, has been in a style of unusual Magnificence and Splendour-That is [it] has so far transcended all anticipations and been so ably conducted, by the Gentlemen to whom it was more immediately confided as to require a full and detailed Report The Committe therefore respectfully recommend the adoption of the following Resolutions Resolved, that a select Committe be appointed, to make a full and detailed report to this Board, in relation to the late celebration by the City of New York of the completion of the Erie Canal [22] Resolved, that the said Committe report to this Board, the names of, and the duties assigned to, the several Gentlemen who have distinguished themselves in aid of the Municipal Authorities of the City, and what, in the opinion of the said Committe, will be an appropriate tribute of respect, for services thus rendered By order of the Committe R Riker Chairman of the Committe Which was approved and the Resolutions adopted The Mayor appointed the Original Committe Viz The Recorder Alderman Mann Davis Assistants Bolton Agnew The following Letter from Mr Alex' Coventry in behalf of the Committe from the West in the celebration for Completion of the Great Erie Canal was received-His Honor the Mayor was requested to make a suitable reply thereto and the Clerk was directed to cause the same to be published in the papers employed by the Board |
