THE YOUNG PILGRIM: A TALE 66 ILLUSTRATIVE OF THE PILGRIM'S PROGRESS." By A. L. O. E., Author of "The Shepherd of Bethlehem," "The Silver Casket," "This book, it chalketh out before thine eyes It also shews you how he runs and runs, Till he unto the Gate of Glory comes. O then come hither, And lay my book, thy head, and heart together." JOHN BUNYAN. LONDON: T. NELSON AND SONS, PATERNOSTER ROW; EDINBURGH; AND NEW YORK. 1871. T may perhaps be necessary to give a brief explan tion of the object of this little work. It h been written as a CHILD'S COMPANION TO TH PILGRIM'S PROGRESS. That invaluable work frequently put into youthful hands long before the mi can unravel the deep allegory which it contains; and th its precious lessons are lost, and it is only perused an amusing tale. I would offer my humble work as a kind of transl tion, the term which was applied to it by a little b to whom I was reading it in manuscript-a translation ideas beyond youthful comprehension into the comm language of daily life. I would tell the child, throug the medium of a simple tale, that Bunyan's dream is solemn reality, that the feet of the young may tread t nilamim's noth and progd on to the pilgrim's rowerd |
