MAR 2 1918 ว ་ PREFACE TO ROSE'S NOTES EDITION THE HE first republication thirty-five years ago, of the United States Supreme Court Reports in the Lawyers' Edition, was an event of public importance. It has resulted, not merely in the increase, but in the literal multiplication, of the number of lawyers and judges who own and use this great series of decisions. It has, therefore, materially extended the influence of those decisions upon the general jurisprudence of the country. The second republication, known as the Extra Annotated Edition, was published in 1901, and the citations added materially to the use and value of the set. The present rer ublication, or Lawyers' Edition Rose's Notes, is a thin paper subscription edition issued to meet the popular demand and to fill a real need owing to the rapid increase in authority of the Federal government and courts. It contains complete citations of all subsequent reference in the Federal and state courts and in the notes of the great Annotated Reports. This completely revised Rose's Notes will be found at the end of each volume of reports, several of which are bound in every book of this set. To facilitate its use it is separated from the volume of reports by a thumb cut indicated by a red marker and the abbreviation for annotations (ANN.) October 1, 1917. The L. C. P. Co. |
