THE

XI.

'HE ungodly shall be punished according to their own imaginations, which have neglected the righteous, and forsaken the Lord.

Whoso despiseth wisdom and nurture, he is miserable, and their hope is vain, their labours unfruitful, and their works unprofitable:

Their wives are foolish, and their children wicked:

Their offspring is cursed. Wherefore blessed is the barren that is undefiled, which hath not known the sinful bed: she shall have fruit in the visitation of souls. [Wisdom iii. 10—13.]

XII.

AND they tempted God in their heart by

asking meat for their lust.

Yea, they spake against God: they said, Can God furnish a table in the wilderness? Behold, he smote the rock, that the waters gushed out, and the streams overflowed; can he give bread also? can he provide flesh for his people?

Therefore the LORD heard this, and was wroth: so a fire was kindled against Jacob, and anger also came up against Israel;

Because they believed not in God, and trusted not in his salvation:

Though he had commanded the clouds from

above, and opened the doors of heaven.

[Psalm lxxviii. 18-23.]

OUR

XIII.

UR transgressions are multiplied before thee, and our sins testify against us: for our transgressions are with us; and as for our iniquities, we know them;

In transgressing and lying against the LORD, and departing away from our God, speaking oppression and revolt, conceiving and uttering from the heart words of falsehood.

And judgment is turned away backward, and justice standeth afar off: for truth is

fallen in the street, and equity cannot

enter.

Yea, truth faileth; and he that departeth from evil maketh himself a prey and the LORD saw it, and it displeased him that there was no judgment.

And he saw that there was no man, and wondered that there was no intercessor: therefore his arm brought salvation unto him; and his righteousness, it sustained him.

[Isaiah lix. 12-16.]

XIV.

YE

E have plowed wickedness, ye have reaped iniquity; ye have eaten the fruit of lies: because thou didst trust in thy way.

[Ecclus. xxviii. 7.]

F thou turn away thy foot from the sabbath, from doing thy pleasure on my holy day; and call the sabbath a delight, the holy of the LORD, honourable; and shalt honour him, not doing thine own ways, nor finding thine own pleasure, nor speaking thine own words: Then shalt thou delight thyself in the LORD. [Isaiah lviii. 13, 14.]

V.

НЕ E that oppresseth the poor reproacheth

his Maker: but he that honoureth him

hath mercy on the poor.

[Proverbs xiv. 31.]

VI.

THOU shalt not oppress an hired servant that is poor and needy, whether he be of thy brethren, or of thy strangers that are in thy land within thy gates.

VII.

[Deuteronomy xiv. 14.]

WHOSO honoureth his father shall have joy of his own children; and when he maketh his prayer, he shall be heard. He that honoureth his father shall have a long life; and he that is obedient unto the Lord shall be a comfort to his mother.

He that feareth the Lord will honour his father, and will do service unto his parents, as to his masters.

[Ecclus. xiv. 11, 12.]

'HE secret things belong unto the LORD our God: but those things which are revealed belong unto us and to our children for ever, that we may do all the words of this law.

[Deuteronomy xxix. 29.]

X.

NOW, what doth the LORD thy God require of thee, but to fear the LORD thy God, to walk in all his ways, and to love him, and to serve the LORD thy God with all thy heart and with all thy soul.

XI.

[Deuteronomy x. 12.]

AND now, O ye priests, ye shall know that

I have sent this commandment unto you, that my covenant might be with Levi, saith the LORD of hosts.

My covenant was with him of life and peace; The law of truth was in his mouth, and iniquity was not found in his lips: he walked with me in peace and equity, and did turn many away from iniquity.

For the priest's lips should keep knowledge, and they should seek the law at his mouth: for he is the messenger of the LORD of hosts.
