General Information

The Superintendent of Documents, U.S. Government Printing Office, Washington, D.C., 20402, is authorized by law to sell copies of Government publications. A 25 percent discount is allowed to purchasers of 100 or more copies of a single publication mailed to one address. Bookdealers, buying for the purpose of resale, may receive the same discount regardless of quantity if the publications are mailed to their place of business. No discount is allowed when the publications are mailed to a third party unless in quantities of 100 or more, or on several periodicals or groups of publications which fall into a special pricing category.

PRICES

The prices of all U.S. Government publications sold by the Superintendent of Documents are established by the Public Printer in accordance with Title 44 of the United States Code.

Prices are subject to change and the prices charged on your order will be those in effect at the time your order is processed. As it is not feasible to manually correct the prices in the publications affected by price changes, the prices charged on your order may differ from those printed in the publications.

Although the issuing agencies generally know about price changes, some agencies inadvertently continue to publish announcements, order forms, and catalogs which contain erroneous prices. Frequently, the news media publish articles with erroneous or outdated prices.

PRICE LIST

There is no general price list of public documents, but numerous bibliographies have been prepared on special subjects and these will be furnished, on application, by subject or subjects concerning which information is desired. It will also be noted that current publications which are for sale are listed in this catalog.

LIST OF SELECTED PUBLICATIONS

In addition to the subject bibliographies, the Office of the Superintendent of Documents issues a monthly list of Selected United States Government Publications for sale by the Superintendent of Documents. Each list contains annotations and prices, and may be obtained free upon application to the Superintendent of Documents.

CONGRESSIONAL PUBLICATIONS

Subscription service has been implemented for the following groups of Congressional publications: House and Senate Documents; House and Senate Hearings; House and Senate Reports on Public Bills; House and Senate Reports on Private Bills; Public Bills; Private Bills; Public Laws; and Private Laws. In most cases, single copies of publications in these groups of Congressional publications are not sold. Sales copies of a few of the more important ones are printed, and you will find the sales prices listed in the individual entries. The current subscription prices may be obtained from the Superintendent of Documents.

How To Order Publications

Publications entered in this catalog that are for sale by the Superintendent of Documents are indicated by a "for sale" statement in the text entries. Those Congressional publications which are not for sale may be obtained from the responsible Committee, or from the House or Senate Documents Room. Entries for publications sold by National Technical Information Services include a statement to that effect. Unless otherwise indicated, publications are distributed by the issuing office which appears immediately.before the publication date in each entry. Additional information necessary for procuring documents appears above or within text entries. Requests to issuing offices should contain titles and dates of publications. Do not use the L.C. card number in ordering publications.

HOW TO REMIT

Remittances for Government Printing Office sales documents should be made to the Superintendent of Documents, U.S. Government Printing Office, Washington, DC 20402, by check or money order. Publications cannot be mailed in advance or receipt of remittance. Foreign remittances should be made by International Postal Money Order, by draft on a United States or Canadian bank, or by UNESCO Coupons. All remittances should be made payable to the Superintendent of Documents.

Orders received with postage stamps, International Response Coupons, or foreign money will be returned.

Persons who make frequent purchases from the Superintendent of Documents may find a deposit account convenient. Deposits of $50.00 or more are accepted against which orders may be placed without making individual remittances or first obtaining quotations. Order blanks are furnished for this purpose. After the handling of the order has been completed, it will be returned showing the publications supplied, explanations regarding those not sent, and the amount of charge.

No charge is made for postage on documents forwarded to points in United States and its possessions. There is a special handling charge on all orders mailed to other countries. The charge is one-fourth of the current selling price of publications and subscription services ordered. This is to cover the special handling required to comply with the customs and international mailing regulations.

USE STOCK NUMBERS FOR BETTER SERVICE

Because we now warehouse, store, and pick publications by their stock numbers (S/N), we can process your orders more quickly and accurately if you order by stock number and title. If you don't know the stock number, then order by title and the classification number which appears above each entry. Congressional documents and reports should be ordered by title together with the document or report number and the Congress, e.g., 94-1:H.doc. 1.

LIBRARY CLASSIFICATION OF GOVERNMENT DOCUMENTS

The classification given above entries for departmental publication is that used in the Library Division of the Office of the Superintendent of Documents. The shilling mark (/) separates what ordinarily would be superior or inferior numbers or letters. It is not practicable to print these numbers or letters as superiors or inferiors in the Monthly Catalog.

Notice

The Superintendent of Documents is accepting orders to be charged to your Master Charge or Visa account. Customers wishing to use one of these services should furnish their credit card number and date of expiration. Master Charge customers must also furnish their Interbank number.
