from London to Cairo, via Calais and Genoa, for £20, 6s. first, £13, 15s. 6d. second.

Trains-de-Luxe Services.-(a) The Peninsular Express (see above) leaving London every Friday at 9 P.M.

Early application necessary, as only sixty passengers are taken. Restaurant car lunch 4 fr., and dinner 6 fr.

(b) The service from London to Marseilles, in connection with the P. & O. Co.'s Egyptian service (see above), leaving London every Thursday.

(c) Paris-Rome-Naples Express. This is a tri-weekly service only as far as Rome, but the Naples extension runs only twice a week, viz. on Mondays and Thursdays from Paris. Naples is reached on Tuesdays and Fridays at 11.25 P.M. Passengers by the Orient Liners will find this a pleasant and convenient service, as it will allow nearly two days at Naples for sight-seeing, etc., before the steamer starts. Sleeping car fare from Paris, £2, 17s. 6d.

(d) Ostend-Trieste Express (via Calais or via Ostend), in connection with the Austrian-Lloyd service to Alexandria (see above). This is a daily express, but the one to catch the Alexandria steamer leaves Charing Cross at 9 A.M. on Tuesday, and arrives at Trieste on Thursday at 7.10 A.M. Fares: London to Trieste, £12, 4s. 5d. vid Ostend, and £13, 8s. 3d. via Calais. Inclusive fare to Cairo: £27, 7s. 5d. vid Calais; £26, 138. 5d. vida Ostend. Luggage registered through to Trieste. Restaurant car.

(e) Alexandria and Cairo sleeping car express. A daily service leaving Alexandria at 10.45 P.M. and reaching Cairo at 6 next morning. Fare, £1 : 5 : 3.

(ƒ) Then there is a restaurant car attached to the express (1st and 2nd), leaving Alexandria at noon and arriving at Cairo 3.5 P.M. Second-class passengers are allowed in this

car for lunch without paying the supplement for change of class.

(g) The Port Said and Cairo express (restaurant car) leaves Ismailia twice daily, at 12.30 P.M. and 6.45 P.M. (see p. 5).1

(a) Cairo to Luxor and Assouan (First Cataract) and back.

(1) By Express Steamer.-The express (mail) steamers leave Cairo on Friday (and from December 5th on Monday as well) at 4.30 P.M., arriving at Luxor on Thursday and Sunday at 7.50 A.M., and Assouan on Saturday and Tuesday respectively. For the return journey the steamers leave Assouan on Saturday, Luxor the next day, and reach Cairo on Wednesday. For the extra service (on and after December 13th) the steamers leave Assouan on Tuesday, Luxor the next day, and arrive at Cairo on Saturday. Return firstclass fare to Assouan (twenty days) £22, including seven days' hotel accommodation at Luxor and Assouan (four days and three days respectively). Return fare to Luxor (fourteen days) £18: 10s., including three days at Luxor Hotel. No single fares booked. Children under ten, half fares.

(2) By Tourist Steamer.-Leave Cairo at 10 A.M. every Tuesday from the middle of November to the beginning of March. Luxor is reached the following Monday evening, and Assouan the Saturday after. Fare, £50 (cabins de luxe £60). Tour, twenty days.

(3) Combined Rail and Steamer Tour.-There is also a combined railway and steamer tour (fourteen days), leaving Cairo by train on Tuesday at 8.30 A.M., from January 10th to February 28th, for Assiout, thence by steamer. Fare, £35.

For the first two tours, leaving Cairo January 10th and 17th, passengers can travel to Assiout by steamer leaving the previous Friday without extra charge, so that for these two tours passengers get an eighteen days' voyage for £35. The same advantage is allowed on the two last return voyages, passengers leaving Assouan on March 2nd and 9th having the option of returning by steamer all the way to Cairo.

(b) Cairo to Second Cataract and back.-(1) By Express Steamer.-Only as far as the First Cataract, and thence by tourist steamer. The latter steamers leave Shellal (Assouan) on Sunday and Wednesday (December 11th to March 8th) at 10 A.M. in connection with the express service, arriving at Assouan on Saturday. Wady Halfa (Second Cataract) is reached on the afternoon of Wednesday and Saturday respectively. First-class fare (26 days), £48, 5s. Fare from Assouan to Wady Halfa, £23 (£20 by Wednesday's steamer Memnon).

(2) By Tourist Steamer all the way, £73 (27 days). The passengers travelling from Cairo to Assiout and back by rail are charged only £55.

(c) First to Second Cataract by War Deparment Steamer.- Leaves Shellal on Monday (s.s. Ambigol) and
