Or late years, Guide books, and Hand books, in great variety, have been familiar to the public. For the votaries of fashion, there are guides to the places where she concentrates her volatile charms. For the pleasure seekers, there are guides to the assembly, concert rooms, and theatres. For the more intelligent, curious, and enquiring, persons of taste and refinement,-the galleries of art, halls of science, national, and other museums, together with the buildings connected with "Church and State," government, legislation, and law, are all rendered easy of approach by appliances of this nature. For the man of business, there are useful guides springing from the necessities of industry, and pointing to the haunts of commerce. There are railway guides, and guides to particular places, for the traveller ; and why not, then, a Guide to the "Gates of Zion," for the traveller to Zion's Gates? As to the utility of the "Hand-book"-the reader is respectfully requested to consider whether he may not occasionally find himself in those circumstances of sorrow and difficulty, which so often arise from the confusion, and oppression, of worldly things, as well as from causes of a more spiritual nature, in which the perusal of this little book.
