So angels, doubtless, God's deep works explore, In thought majestic, their bright spirits soar, Discover, praise, and wonder, and adore. Meekness and gentleness his life adorned: He fell; and many a holy spirit mourned; He liv'd, and pointed wanderers to the skies, He died, and realis'd the heavenly prize. He tried the grief-struck bosom to alloy, And shed o'er earthly gloom celestial joy. He died! He LIVES-in mansions high and fair; Those whom he comforted are with him there. Oh! what a crown for that high world of [night! light, Are souls recovered from the world of Well may each Christian minister rejoice With angels at a penitential voice, And thank their Lord and Master, who hath given Spirits their recompence, co-heirs of hea ven. Now while we thus conmemorate his name, May our hearts catch his pure and heavenly flame; Think as he thought, and strive to be the same. There fair and tributary flowers we strew, Bright children of the sun, and summer dew; They soon will fade; but those upon his page Will please, amuse, instruct, from age to age, And oftimes lead full age and early youth, By beauteous lure, to seek the path of truth; HERVEY!
