the month. Monthly mean temperature the lowest during any month of March since 1872. Highest temperature 73°; lowest 9° (lower than lowest in February). Range of temperature large. Temperature was below freezing from fourth to sixth, from ninth to eleventh, on the thirteenth, from the fifteenth to the twenty-second, and from the twenty-fifth to twenty-ninth. Frequent rains, sleet and snow. A thunderstorm occurred the sixteenth, accompanied by sleet and snow. Number of miles of total movement of wind the largest. Maximum velocity of wind, 30 miles per hour.

APRIL.

Lowest mean barometer during 1877, and large barometric range. Highest temperature 80°; lowest, 28°. Temperature below freezing on the second and third. Percentage of relative humidity small. Frequent light rains occurred and snow fell the twenty-ninth and thirtieth. Thun- · derstorms passed first, sixteenth, eighteenth, nineteenth and twenty-seventh. During first half of month observed several solar halos. Maximum velocity of wind, 36 miles per hour.

MAY.

Small range of barometer. Highest temperature 88°; lowest 31°. Temperature below freezing on the second. Hoar-frost was observed first, second and fourth. Smallest percentage of relative humidity during 1877. Amount of precipitation small, and rain fell only on seven days. Thunderstorms occurred on the fifteenth and twentieth. Observed an aurora borealis the evening of the twenty-eighth. Maximum velocity of wind, 24 miles per hour.

JUNE.

Small range of barometer. Difference in temperature small. Highest temperature 89°; lowest 45°. Large percentage of mean relative humidity, frequent rains, and four

teen thunderstorms passed. Those of the eighteenth, twenty-fourth and twenty-fifth were accompanied by very violent gusts of wind, and on the twenty-fourth, twentyfifth and thirtieth by hail. Maximum velocity of wind 50 miles per hour.

JULY.

Range of barometer small, and monthly mean barometer the lowest for any month of July since 1871. Difference in temperature very small. Highest temperature 90°-the highest during 1877; lowest, 54°. Amount of precipitation small for July, and only eight thunderstorms occurred. Greatest velocity of wind, 24 miles per hour.

AUGUST.

Range of barometer, 0.478', and difference in temperature, 32°-the smallest during 1877. Monthly mean barometer the lowest for any month of August since 1871. Highest temperature, 89°; lowest, 57°. Precipitation moderate. Eight thunderstorms occurred. Maximum velocity of wind, 24 miles per hour. Calms were most frequent, and number of miles of total movement of wind the smallest.

SEPTEMBER.

Range of barometer small. Highest temperature, 85°; lowest, 42°. Precipitation small. Hoar frost on the morning of the eighteenth. Thunderstorms passed the tenth and seventeenth. Maximum velocity of wind, only 15 miles per hour.

OCTOBER.

Mean temperature highest in any month of October since 1872. Highest temperature, 83°; lowest, 35°. Precipitation moderate. A thunderstorm passed the ninth. Observed a feeble aurora borealis on the eleventh. Maximum velocity of wind, 24 miles per hour.

NOVEMBER.

Greatest range of barometer, 1.201'. High mean barometer. Mean temperature higher than in any month of November since 1871. Highest temperature, 61°; lowest, 9°. Observed first ice on the morning of the third. Precipitation in form of rain and snow moderate. First snowfall on the fifth. Maximum velocity of wind, 24 miles per hour.

DECEMBER.

Higher monthly mean barometer, but range considerably smaller than November. Mean temperature the highest in any month of December since 1871, and far above the mean of December for a number of years. Weather steady-warm during last half of month, and temperature below freezing occurred only during first half of month, on the first, second, third, sixth, seventh, eighth, ninth and fourteenth. Highest temperature, 67°; lowest, 20°. Very large percentage of mean relative humidity, and frequent light rains occurred. Snow fell on the first, sixth and thirty-first. Maximum velocity of wind, 20 miles per hour.
