Each carnal lust and vain desire
From every soul remove,

And fill our hearts with holy fire,
The fire of heavenly love.

From strength to strength, from grace to grace,

O lead us onward still;

Till cleans'd and pure before thy face
We stand on Zion's hill.

JESUS! exalted far on high,
To whom a Name is given,
A Name surpassing every name,
That's nam'd in earth or heaven.

Before thy throne shall every knee
Bow down with one accord;
Before thy throne shall every tongue
Confess that Thou art Lord.

Jesus! who in the form of God
Didst equal honour claim;
Yet, to redeem our guilty souls,
Didst stoop to death and shame :

O! may that mind be form'd in us,
Which shone so bright in Thee;
May we be humble, lowly, meek,
From pride and envy free.

May we to others stoop, and learn
To imitate thy love;

So shall we bear thine image here,
And share thy throne above.

HAIL the day, when in the sky
Shone the Day-spring from on high;
When the star from heaven display'd
Where the holy Child was laid.

Onward moving, that bright flame
Did the Saviour's birth proclaim ;
And the Gentiles came to bring
́Off'rings to their infant King.
Lord of heaven! O! may thy light
Shine upon our darken'd sight,
Till it guide us to the rest,
Where thy people shall be blest.

May it light us on the road,
Leading to the throne of God;
And our off'ring then shall be
Hearts devoted, Lord, to Thee.

CHRIST, whose glory fills the skies,
Christ, the true, the only Light,
Sun of Righteousness arise,

Triumph o'er the shades of night :
Day-spring from on high draw near;
Day-star in our hearts appear.

Dark and cheerless is the morn,
Till illumin'd, Lord, by Thee;

Joyless is the day's return,

Till thy mercy's beams we see ;

Till they pour their gladd'ning light
Through the darkness of our night.

Visit, then, these souls of thine,
Pierce the gloom of sin and grief;
Fill us, Lord, with light divine,
Scatter all our unbelief;

More and more Thyself display,
Shining to the perfect day.

GOD of mercy, God of grace,
Show the brightness of thy face;
Shine upon us, Saviour, shine,
Fill thy Church with light divine;
Let thy saving health extend
Unto earth's remotest end.

Let the people praise Thee, Lord,
Be by all that live ador'd;

Let the nations shout, and sing
Glory to their Saviour King;
At thy feet their tribute pay,
And thy holy will obey.

Let the people praise Thee, Lord;
Earth shall then her fruits afford;
God to man his blessing give,
Man to God devoted live;
All below, and all above,

One in joy, and light, and love.

BRIGHT was the guiding star that led,
With mild benignant ray,

The Gentiles to the lowly shed,
Where the Redeemer lay.

But lo! a brighter, clearer light
Now points to his abode;

It shines through sin and sorrow's night
To guide us to our God.

O gladly tread the narrow path,
While light and grace are given;
Who meekly follow Christ on earth,
Shall reign with Him in heaven.

SONS of men, behold from far,
Hail the long-expected Star!
Jacob's Star that gilds the night,
Guides bewilder'd nature right.

Mild it shines on all beneath,
Piercing through the shades of death,
Scatt'ring error's wide-spread night,
Kindling darkness into light.

Nations all, far off and near,
Haste to see your God appear;
Haste, for Him your hearts prepare ;
Hail Him manifested there.

All your powers in praise employ ;
Shout, ye sons of God, for joy;
Sing, ye morning stars, again;
God descends to dwell with men.

BRETHREN, let us join to bless
Christ, the Lord our Righteousness;
Let our praise to Him be given,
High at God's right hand in heaven.

Son of God, to Thee we bow:
Thou art Lord, and only Thou!
Thou the blessed Virgin's seed,
Glory of thy church, and Head!

May we follow and adore

Thee, our Saviour, more and more :
Guide and bless us with thy love,
Till we join thy saints above.

HAIL, Thou Source of every blessing,
Sovereign Father of mankind!
Gentiles now thy grace possessing,
In thy courts admission find:
Gratefully we bend before Thee,

In thy Church obtain a place;
Now by faith behold thy glory,
Praise thy truth, and sing thy grace.

Now reveal'd to eastern sages,

See the star of mercy shine:
Myst'ry hid in former ages,
Myst'ry great of love divine!
Hail, Thou ever-blessed Saviour!
Gentiles now their off'rings bring,

In thy temple seek thy favour,
Worship Thee, their Lord and King.
