And it came to pass, when Jesus had made an end of commanding his twelve disciples, he departed thence, to teach and to preach in their cities.

And they went out, and preached that men should repent. And they cast out many devils, and anointed with oil many that were sick, and healed them every where.

Time. But when Herod's * birth-day was "32' kept, the daughter of Herodias danced before them, and pleased Herod. Whereupon he pipmised with an oath to give her whatsoever she would ask. And she, being before instructed of her mother, said, Give me here John Baptist's head in a charger.b And the king was sorry; nevertheless for the oath's sake,c and theni which sat with him at meat,

he commanded it to be given her. And he sent, and beheaded John in the prison. And his head was brought in a charger, and given to the damsel : and she brought if to her mother. And his disciples came, and took up the body, and buried it, and went and told Jesus.

Now Herod the tetrarch heard of all that was done by him; and he was perplexed, because that it was said of some, that John was risen from the dead; and of some, that Elias had appeared ; and of others, that one of the old prophets was risen again. And Herod said, John have I beheaded: but who is this, of whom I hear such things ? And he desired to see him.
62. The Twelve return.
And the apostles when they were Place. returned, gathered themselves toge- CaPernaumther unto Jesus, and told him all things, both what they had done, and what they had taught. And he said unto them, "Come ye "yourselves apart into a desert place, and "rest awhile:" for there were many coming and going, and they had no leisure so much as to eat.
