Chrift in you the hope of glory, whom we preach. Q. Doth the apofile any where else press the putting on of this new birth? Rom. A. Put ye on the Lord Jefus Chrift, 13, 14 and make no provifion for the flesh, to fulfil the lufts thereof. Gal. 3. 27. Q. Doth be write to any of the faints, as having put off the old, and put on the new man? A. For as many of you as have been baptized into Chrift, have put on Chrift. Col. 3. Seeing that ye have put off the old man 9, 10. with his deeds, and have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him. Q. What speaketh Chrift himself of the neceffity of this new birth? 3-3 John A. For the preaching of the cross is to 1 Cor. them that perish, foolishness; but unto us that are saved, it is the power of God. Q. What effect had this cross in the apostle? And how much preferreth be the new creature, to all outward and visible ordinances and observances ? A. But God forbid that I should glory, Gal. 6. save in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, 14, 15. by whom the world is crucified unto me, and I unto the world : for in Jesus Christ neither circumcision availeth any thing, nor uncircumcision, but a new creature. Q. What speaketh Christ of the unity of the saints with bim ? A. At that day ye shall know that I am Johor in my Father, and ye in me, and I in Abide in me, and I in you. As the John 15. branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine, no more can ye, except ye abide in me. I am the vine, ye are branches; he that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit; for without me, ye can do nothing. Neither pray I for these alone, but for John 17. them also which shall believe on me through 20, 37, their word: that they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us, that the world may believe that thou hast sent ine. And the glory which thou gavest me, I you. 14. 20. 4, 5 22, 23 Heb. have given them, that they may be one, even as we are one: I in them, and thou in me, that they may be made perfect in one, and that the world may know that thou hast sent me; and haft loved them as thou hast loved me. Concerning the Light wherewith Jesus CHRIST hath enlightened every Man; the Universality and Sufficiency of God's Grace, to all the World, made manifest therein. Quest. WHEREIN confifts the love of gave John 3, 16, gave his only-begotten Son, that whofoever believeth in him fhould not perifh, but have everlasting life. In this was manifested the love of God John 4. 9. towards us, because that God fent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him. Q. What is intended here by the world? All and every man, or only a few? A. But we fee Jefus, who was made a Heb. little lower than the angels for the suffer- *.9. ing of death, crowned with glory and honour; that he by the grace of God fhould tafte death for every man. 2, 1220 And if any man fin, we have an advo-1 John cate with the Father, Jefus Chrift the righteous, and he is the propitiation for our fins; and not for ours only, but also for the fins of the whole world. Q. Methinks the apostle John is very plain there, in mentioning the whole world, which must be not only the faints, but all others, feeing be diftinguifbeth the world from himself, and all the faints to whom he then wrote: What faith Paul elsewhere in this matter? 1 A. Chrift in you, the hope of glory, Col. r. whom we preach, warning every man, and 27, 28. teaching every man in all wisdom, that we may prefent every man perfect in Christ Jefus. Q. What is the apostle Peter's testimony in this? A. The Lord is not Black concerning his promise (as fome men count flackness) but is long-suffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that a!! should come to repentance. Q. Are there any more scripture pasages that prove this thing? 1. Say unto them, As I live, faith the Lord God, I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked, but that the wicked turn from his way and live. The Lord is gracious and full of compaffion; flow to anger, and of great mercy. The Lord is good to all, and his tender mercies are over all his works. To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself. Q. Seeing then by these fcriptuses it appears that the love of God is held out to all, that all might have been, or may be saved by Christ; what is to be judged of those who affert, that God nor Christ never purposed Ezek. 33.
