Past Grand Junior Warden Sidney Smith (25) reported that Brother Elsom was lying ill at a hospital in Chicago, and moved that the Grand Master send him a telegram of sympathy, which was Adopted by a rising vote. "William Elsom, Chicago: "The Grand Lodge, in session, sends fraternal sympathy and well wishes for your recovery. (Signed.) "THOMAS LAMBERT, Grand Master." COMMUNICATIONS FROM ABSENT BRETHREN. The Deputy Grand Secretary then read a letter from Past Grand Master Blackmar, chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Grand Charity Fund, expressive of his sincere regret at his inability to attend the session of the Grand Lodge by reason of physical infirmity. On motion of Past Grand Master Fellows (144), the Grand Master was requested to send a telegram of sympathy and regret at his absence to Brother Blackmar, as follows: *Not present at session. "E. C. Blackmar, Past Grand Master, Burlington, Iowa: "Your absence is regretted by your brethren in Grand Lodge assembled, who send fraternal sympathy and kindly greeting. THOMAS LAMBERT, Grand Master." (Signed.) Similar letters were also read from Brothers Cleveland (321), Lindsay (49), and Ansbach (140). Brother Trewin (49) presented the regrets of Grand Chaplain Brother Shanklin (49). ANNOUNCEMENTS. The Grand Master announced to the brethren notices from the Committee on Transportation, as also the Local Committee on Entertainment, when he CALLED FROM LABOR. Grand Lodge was called from labor until 2 o'clock in the afternoon. TUESDAY, JUNE 5TH, A. D. 1900. IN ACCORDANCE with the closing order of the morning, the Grand Master called the Grand Lodge to resume labor at 2 o'clock P. M. Officers and members present as in the morning. MUSIC. Brother Cogswell (263), assisted by the brethren, sang a Masonic ode, printed slips having been placed in the hands of the brethren for the purpose. REPORTS OF GRAND OFFICERS. The Reports of the Grand Secretary and Grand Librarian, together with the financial reports of the Grand Master, Grand Treasurer, Grand Secretary, and Grand Librarian, were all presented without reading, the same being in printed form. So much thereof as refers to financial matters was referred to the Committee on Finance. Grand Secretary's report to the Committee on Grand Master's Address, and Grand Librarian's report to the Committee on Grand Lodge Library. Brother Coxe (26) then presented his report on Fraternal Correspondence, reading the introductory portion thereof, after which Past Grand Master Gamble (61), in behalf of the Board of Trustees of the Grand Charity Fund, presented and read the report of the board, which On motion, was referred to the Committee on Finance. REPORTS-DISTRIBUTION. The committee appointed in the morning to distribute the Grand Master's address then proceeded to distribute the several printed reports aforesaid. NNUALLY, for all the years past, we have presented, as required by the law, a report of the doings of the Grand Secretary's office, that the Grand Lodge might be informed of the condition of Masonry within its jurisdiction so far as the same was connected with the Secretariat. PROCEEDINGS 1899 AND VOLUME XVI. ANNALS The Committee on Printing having arranged for and ordered the publication of the Proceedings of the last annual communication and the binding of Volume XVI., 1898 and 1899, uniform with the previous volumes, for distribution as provided by law and usage The Grand Secretary performed those duties promptly, and the lodges, Grand Officers, Grand Lodges, and public libraries were duly supplied, and it will ever be a source of pride to the thoughtful, intelligent members of the craft in Iowa to know that their Proceedings (Annals of Iowa Masonry) may be found in a larger number of public libraries in the state, the nation, and in foreign countries, than any, or, indeed, all of the sister Grand Lodges combined, for the Iowa motto has ever been to "disseminate Masonic light and knowledge among the craft" as widely as possible. The Committee on Printing will give the items of cost, etc., as the law relieves this office of that duty. PART II. VOLUME XVI. Each year it has been our custom to bind in cloth one hundred copies of the Proceedings for exchange with our sister Grand Jurisdictions and the Masonic bodies which have complimented the Library with their Proceedings bound in similar style, and this year all have been supplied as heretofore. INDEX VOLUME XVI. The index to Volume XVI. was also separately printed and furnished to such members of the fraternity in Iowa as have been |
