Was taken up and read a third time.

Upon the question, "Shall this Senate bill pass?" it was decided as follows:

In the affirmative were

Messrs. Ackerson, Allen, Barber, Bright, Brown, Case, Edwards, Fithian, Haines, Hammond, Mackay, Martens, Pilgrim, Runyon (President), Smith, Sturgess, Wells, Whitney-18.

In the negative-None.

The Secretary was directed by the President to carry said bill to the House of Assembly and inform that body that the Senate has passed the same, and requests its concurrence therein.

Senate Bill No. 56, entitled "An act prohibiting any person cr corporation from erecting, setting, operating or maintaining any fish pound net in any of the waters of the Atlantic ocean, Sandy Hook bay, or Raritan bay, without first obtaining a license for such purpose from the Board of Fish and Game Commissioners of this State, and providing a penalty for the violation thereof," Was taken up on third reading.

Mr. Case asked unanimous consent to amend said bill on third reading.

Which was agreed to.

Mr. Case offered the following amendments, which were read and adopted:

Strike out on pages two and three in section five all words in the first five lines and insert in lieu thereof the word "any" before the word "person" in line six, and insert after the word "corporations" in line six, the words "violating any of the provisions

of this act."

Said bill, as amended, was then read a third time.

Committee Substitute for Senate Bill No. 53, entitled "An act fixing the compensation of members of the boards of chosen freeholders, and directors of boards of chosen freeholders in counties of the second class in this State,"

Was taken up on third reading.

Mr. Ackerson asked unanimous consent to amend said bill on third reading.

Which was agreed to.

Mr. Ackerson offered the following amendments, which were read and adopted:

Amend line 3 by adding the following after the word "salary": "of twenty-five hundred dollars".

Amend line 6 by adding the following after the word "salary": "of fifteen hundred dollars".

Said bill, as amended, was then read a third time.

Mr. Wells moved that Senate Bill No. 57 be recommitted to the Committee on Highways.

Which was agreed to.

On motion of Mr. Case the Senate then adjourned until 2:30 o'clock, after which, and,

The following message was received from the House of Assembly, by the hands of its Clerk:

I am directed by the House of Assembly to inform the Senate that the House of Assembly has passed the following Concurrent resolution:

WHEREAS, Attempts have been made on the lives of our Presidents; and

WHEREAS, There is no federal statute concerning a proper penalty for such offense; therefore be it

Resolved by the House of Assembly of the State of New Jersey (the Senate concurring), That the Congress of the United States be called upon to enact legislation making an attempt to take the life of a President of the United States punishable with death; and be it further

Resolved, That a copy of this resolution be sent to the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America. In which the concurrence of the Senate is requested.

The following message was received from the House of Assembly by the hands of its Clerk:

Mr. President:

I am directed by the House of Assembly to inform the Senate that the House of Assembly has passed the following concurrent resolution:

Resolved by the House of Assembly (the Senate concurring), That it is the opinion of the One Hundred and Forty-third Legislature of the State of New Jersey that every noncommissioned officer and enlisted man entering the service at the time of the present war, whether conscript or volunteer, be granted six months' additional pay at the time of their honorable discharge from the navy or army, and, further, that Congress be and is hereby petitioned to enact such legislation as will effect this purpose.

In which the concurrence of the Senate is requested.
