PREFACE.

IF, in commencing our labours, we felt that there was opening, and a demand for the "BAPTIST RECORD, AND BIBLICAL REPOSITORY," the experience of two years has tended more deeply to impress our mind with the necessity for its continuance and extended circulation.

Difficulties undoubtedly have been encountered, but, on the other hand, our encouragements have abounded beyond all expectation. The ready assistance afforded by gentlemen, to whose intelligence and mature scholarship is owing the influential position our journal is permitted to occupy; the candid and generous expressions of approval from various quarters, received from time to time; the kind manner in which our labours are regarded by other denominations, and the results that have already accrued from them in our own, plainly and emphatically tell us, our duty is to go forward.

Thankful for the degree of prominence accorded to us in the religious literature of the day, we desire, by the development of all the resources at our command, to advance upon our position with every succeeding month.

By writing for the times, and by a judicious intermixture of topics, it will be increasingly our aim to make the work attractive to different classes of readers, without detracting
