Resolved By Mr. Ross.-(The House of Assembly concurring), That the Governor be requested to return to the Senate, for correction in engrossing, Senate Bill No. 31-284.

By Mr. Ross.-(The House of Assembly concurring), That the Governor be requested to return to the Senate Senate Bill No. 222, for further consideration-346.

By Mr. Voorhees.-That the House of Assembly be requested to return Assembly Bill No. 366 to the Senate for further consideration-423.

By Mr. W. M. Johnson.-(The House of Assembly concurring), That a special committee of two from the Senate, of which the President of the Senate shall be one, and of two from the House of Assembly, shall be appointed to sit, if necessary, during the recess of the Legislature, and to take into consideration the subject of the general system of sewage-disposal for the valley of the Passaic river, and the report of the Passaic Valley Sewerage Commission upon the subject, with a view of hearing suggestions, objections and recommendations from persons and municipalities interested in the subject, and of recommending to the next Legislature such action as the committee may deem wise and expedient concerning the subject involved-470.

By Mr. Voorhees -That the thanks of this Senate be and are hereby extended to William T. Hunt, Dr. E. J. Marsh and Dr. H. C. H. Herold for their able services, without compensation, in investigating the pollution of the Passaic river-470.

By Mr. Stokes-Whereas, The United States Life-Saving Service,
with its record of personal bravery and meritorious efforts on behalf
of life and property imperiled upon our treacherous coast, is a mat-
ter of congratulation to the nation at large and pride to the people
of our state; and, whereas, in the promotion of its efficiency, the
intelligent and zealous services of Lieutenant Walter S. Howland,
of the United States Revenue Cutter Service, Assistant Inspector,
merit especial acknowledgement; therefore be it Resolved (the
House of Assembly concurring), That the Legislature of the State
of New Jersey hereby recognizes and commends the zeal, skill and
efficiency of said Lieutenant Walter S. Howland in behalf of said
service, and would respectfully ask that upon completion of his
present tour of duty as Assistant Inspector of the Fourth District
United States Life Saving Service the governmental authorities
will, if not incompatible with the rules of the service, continue his
verv acceptable service as such Assistant Inspector of said district.
Resolved, That engrossed copies of this resolution be forwarded to
the Honorable the Secretary of the Treasury and to each of the
Senators and Representatives of New Jersey in Congress of the
United States-547.

By Mr. Voorhees.-That a committee of three be appointed to wait
upon the Governor and inform him that the Senate has completed
its labors and is about to adjourn sine die, and inquire if the Execu-
tive has any further communication to make to this body—567.
By Mr. Daly. That the Senate, about to finally adjourn, hereby
desires to express its hearty approval and sincere thanks for the
extreme fairness and unfailing courtesy that has at all times charac-
terized the rulings of its President, the Hon. Robert Williams, who,
during this session, has maintained the dignity of the chair and
respected the rights of each individual Senator-570.

Resolved By Mr. Daly.-That this Senate also desires to express, in the same cordial manner, its thanks for the uniform kindness shown them by all the officers of the Senate, and for the faithful manner in which they have performed their respective duties-570.

By Mr. Voorhees.-That the Senate do hereby express its apprecia-
tion of the ability, courtesy and uniform good nature of Senator
Daly, the leader of the minority in the Senate during the present
session of this legislature-570.

By Mr. Voorhees.-That the thanks of this Senate are due to the
proprietors of the State Gazette and True American for copies of
their papers placed daily upon the desks of the Senators-570.
By Mr. Voorbees.-That the Secretary of the Senate be authorized
to prepare indices of the Senate Journal and Minutes of the Execu-
tive Sessions in the same general manner as the indices of the Ses-
sion of 1896, and that he be paid the same compensation as is allowed
by law for preparing the indices of the House of Assembly Minutes
-570.

By Mr. Voorhees.-That all bills in the various committees not re-
ported, and all bills in the President's desk not acted upon, be
hauded to the Secretary of the Senate for filing with the State
Librarian as dead bills-570.

By Mr. Voorhees.-That the hour of adjournment having arrived, the Secretary inform the House of Assembly that the Senate is now ready to adjourn sine die, and awaits the presence of the House of Assembly-575.

By Mr. Voorhees.-That the Secretary of the Senate be and he is hereby directed to inform the House of Assembly that the Senate has convened, pursuant to the proclamation of the Governor, dated May 11th, 1897, and has proceeded to business-670.
