On motion of Mr. Voorhees, the Executive Session then arose.

TRENTON, March 25th, 1897.

At 5:45 P. M. the Senate met in Executive Session.

Under the direction of the President, the Secretary called the Senate, when the following Senators appeared and answered the call: Messrs. Daly, Francis, Johnson H. W., Johnson W. M., Ketcham, Miller, Parry, Reed, Ross, Skirm, Stanger, Stokes, Voorhees, Vreeland, Williams (President)—15.

Mr. Voorhees moved that the nomination of John S. Barkalow, for President, Judge of the Court of Common Pleas of Passaic County, be now considered,

Which was agreed to.

Upon the question, "Will the Senate advise and consent to the said nomination?" the ayes and nays were taken, with the following result:

In the affirmative were—

Messrs. Daly, Francis, Johnson H. W., Johnson W. M., Ketcham, Miller, Parry, Ross, Skirm, Stanger, Stokes, Voorhees, Vreeland, Williams (President)-14.

In the negative-None.

So the said nomination was declared unanimously confirmed.

Mr. Voorhees moved that the nomination of Gottfried Krueger, for Judge of the Court of Errors and Appeals, be now considered,

Which was agreed to.

Upon the question, "Will the Senate advise and consent to the said nomination?" the ayes and nays were taken, with the following

result:

In the affirmative were—

Messrs. Barber, Daly, Francis, Gould, Johnson H. W., Johnson W. M., Ketcham, Kuhl, Ross, Skirm, Voorhees, Williams (President)-12.

In the negative were

Messrs. Parry, Stokes, Vreeland-3.

So the said nomination was declared confirmed.

Mr. Voorhees moved that the nomination of Frederick Adams, for Judge of the Court of Errors and Appeals, be now considered, Which was agreed to.

Upon the question, "Will the Senate advise and consent to the said nomination?" the ayes and nays were taken, with the following result:

In the affirmative were-

The President laid before the Senate a communication from the Governor, and the Secretary read as follows:

SIR-With the consent of the Senate, I desire to withdraw the nomination of Elias H. Newell as a Commissioner of Pilotage.

For member of the Board of Visitors to the State Agricultural College, 7th Congressional District, Edmund H. Davey, in place of James Stevens, deceased.

For Harbor Master at the city of Elizabeth, John P. Arnold.

For Commissioner of Pilotage, in place of Elias A. Newell, John C. Weaver, of Cumberland county.

For Trustee of the State Reform School for Boys, in place of Moses Bigelow, deceased, Walter J. Knight, of Essex county.
