Assembly Bill No. 99, entitled "An act to amend an act entitled 'A further supplement to an act entitled "An act to enable cities in this state to furnish suitable accommodations for the transaction of public business,""" title as amended, approved April fifteenth, one thousand eight hundred and eighty-seven,

Assembly Bill No. 189, entitled "An act respecting the opening, improving and construction of permanent inlets or water-ways for the water from the ocean to run into the creeks and rivers of this state, and providing that the cost thereof shall be borne by the counties bordering on the ocean in or through which such creeks or rivers may run, and the municipalities in, through or between which such inlets or water-ways are to be opened, improved or constructed."

The Senate then adjourned.

In the absence of the President, Mr. Skirm took the chair as President pro tempore.

Under the direction of the President pro tempore, the Secretary called the Senate, when the following Senator appeared and answered the call:

MONDAY, March 15th, 1897.

At 8 o'clock P. M. the Senate met.

The session was opened by prayer by the Rev. George B. Wight, D.D., of Millville.

Under the direction of the President, the Secretary called the Senate, when the following Senators appeared and answered the call: Messrs. Barber, Daly, Francis, Gould, Herbert, Hoffman, Johnson H. W., Johnson W. M., Ketcham, Kuhl, Miller, Parry, Reed, Ross, Skirm, Stanger, Stokes, Voorhees, Vreeland, Williams (President)—20.

Journal of Wednesday and Friday was read and approved.

The President presented a memorial from soldiers and sailors who served in the late war of the Rebellion, requesting the passage of the bill for the establishment of a home for disabled veterans of the war. Said memorial was read and referred to the Committee on Militia. The President presented a petition from the Newark Typographical Union, No. 103, requesting the Senate's refusal to pass the bill pending known as the consolidation of election bill.

Said petition was read and referred to the Committee on Elections. Mr. Voorhees presented a petition from the New Jersey State Agricultural Society requesting the continuance of the annual appropriation of $3,000 for the purchase of premiums, etc.

Said petition was read and referred to the Committee on Appropriations.

Mr. Reed, Chairman of the Committee on Boroughs and Borough Commissions, reported
