Morning.

72

Before the Holy Communion.

HOLY JESU! SAVIOUR Bless'd,
As, by passion strong possess'd,
Through this world of sin we stray,
Thou to guide us art the Way.

HOLY JESU! when the night
Of error blinds our clouded sight,
Round the cheering day to throw,
SAVIOUR, then the Truth art Thou.

HOLY JESU! when our pow'r
Fails us in temptation's hour,
All unequal to the strife,
Thou to aid us art the Life.

Who would reach his heav'nly home,
Who would to the FATHER come,
Who the FATHER's presence see,
JESU! he must come by Thee.

Channel of the FATHER'S Grace,
Image of the FATHER'S Face,
SAVIOUR Bless'd, Incarnate SON,
With the FATHER Thou art One.

Glory to the FATHER be,

Glory, Only Son, to Thee;

And, of equal power confess'd,

Glory to the SPIRIT Bless'd. Amen.

Morning and Evening.

[ocr errors]

Before the Sermon.

How blest is he who ne'er consents

By ill advice to walk;

Nor stands in sinners' ways, nor sits
Where men profanely talk.

But makes the perfect law of GOD
His business and delight;
Devoutly reads therein by day,
And meditates by night.

Like some fair tree, which, fed by streams,
With timely fruit does bend,

He still shall flourish, and success

All his designs attend.

Ungodly men and their attempts
No lasting root shall find;
Untimely blasted, and dispers'd
Like chaff before the wind.

For GOD approves the just man's ways,
To happiness they tend;

But sinners, and the paths they tread,
Shall both in ruin end.

TO FATHER, SON, and HOLY GHOST,
The GOD Whom we adore,

Be glory; as it was, is now,

And shall be evermore. Amen.

SECOND SUNDAY AFTER TRINITY.

Morning.

74 Before the Holy Communion.

WHO place in Sion's God their trust,
Like Sion's rock shall stand;
Like her immoveable be fixed,
By His Almighty Hand.

Look how the hills on every side,
Jerusalem inclose;

So stands the LORD around his saints,
To guard them from their foes.

The wicked may afflict the just,
But ne'er too long oppress,
Nor force him by despair to seek
Base means for his redress.

Be good, O righteous GOD, to those,
Who righteous deeds affect;
The heart that innocence retains,
Let innocence protect.

TO FATHER, SON, and HOLY GHOST,

The GOD Whom we adore,

Be glory; as it was, is now,

And shall be evermore. Amen.

Morning and Evening.

75

Before the Sermon.

THEE I'll extol, my GoD and King,
Thy endless praise proclaim;
This tribute daily I will bring,
And ever bless Thy Name.

Thou, LORD, beyond compare art great,
And highly to be prais'd;
Thy Majesty, with boundless height,
Above our knowledge rais'd.

The LORD is good; fresh acts of grace

His pity still supplies;

His anger moves with slowest pace,

His willing mercy flies.

Thy love through earth extends its fame, To all Thy works express'd:

These show Thy praise, whilst Thy great Name

Is by Thy servants bless’d.

They, with the glorious prospect fir'd,

Shall of Thy kingdom speak ;

And Thy great pow'r, by all admir'd,
Their lofty subject make.

GOD's glorious works of ancient date
Shall thus to all be known;
And thus His kingdom's royal state,
With public splendour shown.

His stedfast Throne, from changes free,
Shall stand for ever fast;

His boundless sway no end shall see,
But time itself outlast.

TO FATHER, SON, and HOLY GHOST,
The GOD Whom we adore,

Be glory; as it was, is now,

And shall be evermore. Amen.
