so, Father; for so it seemed good in thy sight.

VER. 25.

He said unto him, a What is written in the law ? how readest thou ?

if they speak not according to this a To the law and to the testimony: word, it is because there is no light in them, Isa. viii. 20. Now we know, that what things soever the law saith, it saith to them who are under the law; that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God, Rom. iii. 19. For Moses describeth the righteousness which is of the law, That the man which doeth those things shall live by them, x. 5. And the law is not of faith: but, The man that doeth them shall live in them, Gal. iii. 12,

And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, This is it that belongeth unto the Levites: from twenty and âve years old and upward they shall go in to wait upon the service of the tabernacle of the congregation: And from the age of fifty years they shall cease waiting upon the service thereof, and shall serve no more: But shall minister with their brethren in the tabernacle of the congregation, to keep the charge, and shall do no ser

Εἶπε δὲ αὐτοῖς· Οταν προσεύχησθε, λέγετε· Πατερ ἡμῶν ὁ ἐν τοῖς οὐρανοῖς, ἁγιασθήτω τὸ ὄνομά σου· ἐλθέτω ἡ βασι λεία σου· γενηθήτω τὸ θέλημά σου, ὡς ἐν οὐρανῷ, καὶ ἐπὶ τῆς γῆς.

And he said unto them, When ye apray, say, bOur Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name: Thy kingdom come: Thy will be done, as in heaven, so in earth.

And forgive us our sins; for we also forgive every one that is indebted to us. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil.

VER. 5.

Καὶ εἶπε πρὸς αὐτούς· Τίς ἐξ ὑμῶν ἕξει τίου, καὶ εἴπῃ αὐτῷ· Φίλε, χρῆσόν μο φίλον, καὶ πορεύσεται πρὸς αὐτὸν μεσονυκ τρεῖς ἄρτους·

shall have a friend, and shall go unto And he said unto them, Which of you Friend, lend me three loaves; him at midnight, and say unto him,

VER. 6.

Ἐπειδὴ φίλος μου παρεγένετο ἐξ ὁδοῦ πρὸς με, καὶ οὐκ ἔχω ὃ παραθήσω αὐτῷ· For a friend of mine in his journey is come to me, and I have nothing to set before him. * Or, out of his way.

VER. 7.

Κακεῖνος ἔσωθεν ἀποκριθεὶς εἴπῃ· Μή μοι κόπους πάρεχε· ἤδη ἡ θύρα κέκλεισται, καὶ εἰσίν· οὐ δύναμαι ἀναστὰς δοῦναί σοι. τὰ παιδία μου, μετ ̓ ἐμοῦ εἰς τὴν κοίτην

And he from within shall answer and say, Trouble me not ; the door is now shut, and my children are with me in bed; I cannot rise and give thee.

VER. 8.

Λέγω ὑμῖν, εἰ καὶ οὐ δώσει αὐτῷ ἀναστὰς, διὰ τὸ εἶναι αὐτοῦ φίλον, διά γε τὴν ἀναίδειαν αὐτοῦ ἐγερθεὶς δώσει αὐτῷ ὅσων χρήζει.

and give him because he is his friend, yet I say unto you, though he will not rise and give him as many as he needeth. because of his importunity he will rise

VER. 9.

Καγὼ ὑμῖν λέγω· Αἰτεῖτε, καὶ δοθήσεται ὑμῖν· ζητεῖτε, καὶ εὑρήσετε· κρούετε, καὶ ἀνοιγήσεται ὑμῖν.

And I say unto you, Ask, and it shall be given you ; seek, and ye shall find ; knock, and it shall be opened unto you. • See on Matt. vii. ver. 7.

VER. 10.

Πᾶς γὰρ ὁ αἰτῶν λαμβάνει· καὶ ὁ ζητῶν εὑρίσκει· καὶ τῷ κρούοντι ἀνοιγήσεται.

a For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.

man's wisdom teacheth, but which the

lieved, ye were sealed with that holy
Spirit of promise, Eph. i. 13. And
grieve not the Holy Spirit of God,
whereby ye are sealed unto the day of
redemption, iv. 30. Whereof the Holy
Ghost also is a witness to us: for
after that he had said before, Heb. x.
15. For the prophecy came not in old
time by the will of man: but holy men
of God spake as they were moved by
the Holy Ghost, 2 Pet. i. 21.
